Rhode Island has taken on its closest challengers in the Atlantic 10 Conference the past two Fridays, and the Rams dispatched both by 13-point margins. Tonight, Dan Hurley’s squad has a chance to do it a third time when the Rams travel to New York to meet the second-place St. Bonaventure Bonnies in a nationally-televised matchup.

Things get underway inside Reilly Center a tick or so after 7 PM (ET), the teams meeting for the second time this season. Undefeated in conference play, Rhode Island is favored anywhere from 1-2½ points at SBR’s top sportsbooks with 150½ for the scoreboard mark.

Rams’ Win Streak Now At 16

It has been just a little more than a month since the schools got together in Kingston, the Rams using a 16-3 run to begin the second half to break open a close contest for an eventual 87-73 victory. Favored by 7½ on the NCAA basketball odds, it was Rhode Island’s third consecutive win and cover in the rivalry that now stands 41-27 in favor of the Rams. St. Bonaventure won last year’s clash on its home court, 69-64, as small chalk, the final staying ‘under’ a 142½-point total to snap a string of 7 straight ‘over’ winners on this floor.

The Rams and Bonnies also sat 1-2 in the A-10 then, Rhode Island coming out on top in the same 1-2 battles the last two Fridays with a win at VCU and then topping Davidson at home a week ago. Both of those wins beat the spreads, just as Tuesday’s 85-67 win at home over Richmond did. Rhode Island has covered 4 of 6 conference road games so far, totals running 5-1 O/U in those affairs.

Bonnies Looking To Extend 7-Game Win Streak

All four of St. Bonaventure’s losses in the A-10 have come on the road, but the Bonnies have been perfect at home since opening the campaign with a 77-75 upset loss to Niagara. Mark Schmidt’s side brings a 7-game win streak into this one, and much of that is owed to the backcourt tandem of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley. The seniors have proven to be ironmen on the floor, each averaging more than 36 minutes per game after both played the entire 40 in vs. Richmond and at La Salle.

Senior guard EC Matthews left Rhode Island’s win over the Spiders early with a knee injury and is listed as day-to-day, meaning he’s a game time decision. Not having him would be a big loss, but the Rams missed him for six games earlier this season and won four of them. Give me Rhody for my free NCAA basketball pick.
