Our NCAAB handicapper had two picks last night that were winners by halftime. He hopes to keep the ball rolling as he analyzes the best matchups for your Friday night NCAAB Picks.

Iona vs. Monmouth (Over 165)
In the battle for supremacy in the MAAC, the Iona Gaels (15-10, 12-4) travel the the Monmouth Hawks (22-5, 14-2) to try to atone for a home loss to Monmouth earlier this season. That earlier game, a 110-102 win by Monmouth, broke a 26-game home winning streak by Iona and ended in fisticuffs between the two teams. You would think that a 110-102 college game must have ended with multiple overtimes to get to a score that high, but you would be wrong as the combined 212 score occurred in regulation. The O/U total in that game was 161.5, and the O/U line on this game has been listed at 165 over at BookMaker.

Of course, a score that high in the first game should point to some gaudy field goal percentages, which is certainly the case. Monmouth shot 58.1% overall from the floor, hit 13 3-pointers, and made 25 of 32 free throw attempts. Iona shot 45.5% from the floor (near their season average, hit 11 3-pointers, and hit a very efficient 21 of 23 from the free throw line.

My thesis in this game is not that these teams can score in the 80’s with regularity, which they certainly can, but that because of the well publicized fight after the game this will be a very tightly called matchup. Fouls will be called with the least amount of contact, teams will be in the double bonus, and skilled guards will be able to drive to the basket and get to the free throw line with regularity. These untimed scoring chances will inflate the score in this game. Even though 165 is a high total for the NCAA both teams should not have a problem taking advantage of fouls to get to the charity stripe. Take over 165 in this game as one of your Friday night NCAA Basketball Picks and don’t miss this one on ESPNU.

Yale vs. Princeton (Over 141.5)
In the game that could decide the Ivy League bid to the NCAA Tournament  the Yale Bulldogs (17-5, 8-0) try to keep their 12-game winning streak alive on the road at the Princeton Tigers (16-5, 6-1), who are currently second place in the conference. A win by Yale almost assures an NCAA bid, but Princeton is very tough at home and have not lost there this season going 8-0 SU. The O/U total on this game has initially been listed at 141.5 at BookMaker.

The first game was won by Yale at home by the score of 79-75; a total that went well over the wagering line of 137.5. Yale was hot from the floor in that game, shooting 52.8% from the floor and 57.9% from 3-point range. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Tigers 34-23 overall in a dominating performance on the glass. That performance will be hard to repeat as Princeton allows a 9th ranked 29.3 rebounds to opponents per game at home.

What Princeton also does at home is score. A lot. The Tigers 87.8 points per game scoring at home is ranked 7th in the country right now. This is at odds with the amount of points Yale allows on the road, a decent 23rd ranked 65.8 points per game. But there just isn’t enough evidence to think that Yale will suppress Princeton’s offense by more than they did in the first game, and a game in the 70’s brings this one well over the listed total. For that reason, I’m picking over 141.5 points in this game as one of my NCAA Basketball picks. This should be another great game to watch.
