West Regional Final Chapter II
The Arizona Wildcats (34-3) and Wisconsin Badgers (34-3) will square off in the West Regional at 6:09 PM ET. Ironically this will be the rematch of the 2014 West Regional Final which saw Wisconsin prevail in an exciting 64-63 win over Arizona. According to the NCAA Tournament odds, Arizona is a 1.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 131.0.
Wild about those Cats
The Arizona Wildcats will enter this regional final having won their last fourteen games in a row, and have been extremely profitable during that time frame by covering in ten of those contests. Arizona is a terrific rebounding team that averages nine more boards per game than their opponents. As a matter of fact, Arizona has held a huge 187-126 cumulative rebounding advantage over their previous five opponents. They’ve shot an impressive 48.6% from the field this season, and also average nine offensive rebounds per game. The Wildcats defensive play is nothing to sneeze about as well. Arizona is allowing just 59.0 points per game, and has held opponents to a paltry 39.8% shooting from the field. They’ve gone under the total in five of their last six games, and held five of those opponents to 64-points or less.
Bo’s Boys Continue to Roll
Wisconsin is coming off an impressive 79-72 win over North Carolina in the regional semifinals on Thursday, and covered as a closing 6.0 point favorite. That result also marked the third time in the last four, and the sixth time in their last nine games that the Badgers went over the total. Since losing at Maryland on February 24th, the Badgers have reeled off eight wins in a row, and have also come out on top of the score in eighteen of their previous nineteen games. The Badgers get the reputation as a slow plodding half court offensive team. However, they’ve scored 71-points or more in each of the previous eight games, and shot a terrific 47% or better from the field in six of those contests. Wisconsin is a fundamentally sound team that doesn’t beat themselves. They average committing only seven turnovers per game, and have made more free throw attempts this season than opponents had even attempted. The Badgers Bo Ryan may be the most underrated head coach in the nation.
Arizona vs. Wisconsin should be one of the best games to date in this 2015 NCAA Tournament. I picked Wisconsin to come out of the West Region and advance to the “Final Four” prior to the start of the tournament. I’m going to stick by my guns when making my NCAA tournament picks today.
