Tonight, the No. 13 San Diego State Aztecs are the small favorite on the College Basketball betting lines for their battle in Seattle with the undefeated Washington Huskies.

The San Diego State Aztecs Can Win Because…
They’re going to learn from their loss to Arizona. The Aztecs have been solid all season long and their lone loss was a two-point failure on a neutral site to No. 3 Arizona. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. Other than that, they’ve proven to be one of the elite teams in the nation.

The Aztecs have won 53 straight games against unranked non-conference opponents, which is the second-longest streak in the nation (only Ohio State has more). That includes eight straight on the road. Speaking of away games, they’ve won four straight road games against Pac-12 opponents and definitely won’t be intimidated by the environment.

One of the reasons why the Aztecs thrive on the road is because their defense is top-notch. Entering the weekend, the Aztecs were 13th in blocked shots per game, 15th in field goal percentage defense and 19th in scoring defense. If you follow the Ken Pomeroy rankings, he has the Aztecs as the fourth best team in terms of defensive efficiency. That should be enough to get the job done on Sunday, so take them with your NCAA basketball pick.

The Washington Huskies Can Win Because…
The Aztecs are not a team that does the little things particularly well…at least right now. The Aztecs have been absolutely horrendous from the charity stripe of late, which is one of the reasons why they already have a loss on the season. They’ve shot a pathetic 26-of-51 from the line over the last two games and that’s a large factor as to why they lost to Arizona. Only one player on the team is shooting better than 70% with free throws.

The Huskies are a competent, under-the-radar team that’s not getting a lot of love right now. They are 17-11 in NCAA basketball betting odds  against ranked teams at home under Lorenzo Romar, which is pretty good. While Nigel Williams-Gross is a player that’s flying under the radar right now, that’s not likely to happen for long. He was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Wooden Legacy Tournament, averaging 16.7 points per game, 8.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds. Washington wasn’t really tested in that tournament – and hasn’t been all year – but they have still taken care of business. They’ve won their six games by an average of 11.8 points per contests. They’ll have a shot at the upset here.

Outlook
The Huskies are a quality opponent but the Aztecs are the better team. Their defense keep NWG under wraps in this one and give them the edge. As long as they aren’t a complete mess from the free throw line again, they should win and cover.
