It’s the day before the Sweet 16, and the NCAA in their infinite wisdom has provided us with two matchups that have great wagering value in the meantime. Read on as our college basketball handicapper gives picks you can back with confidence.

Utah Valley vs. Wyoming

We are already in the semifinals of the CBI tournament, and a surprising Utah Valley team now travels to Wyoming to play the Cowboys on the road.

Utah Valley has won two games in a row SU and ATS on the road as 4.5-point listed underdogs to get to this matchup with Wyoming in the semifinal of the CBI tournament. With Wyoming coming off of two solid SU and ATS themselves, the odds have opened with the Cowboys as 3-point favorites across the board.

Wyoming finished 7th in the Mountain West Conference this year, but I still see them as being a class up from the visiting Utah Valley Wolverines. Utah Valley finished 5th in the WAC, or what remains of that conference from a basketball standpoint. Utah Valley has a statistical advantage in rebounds only in this game, but that is likely because they miss so many shots from the field. That is something that will not improve here, as Wyoming holds visitors to just 39.1% from the field and 31.6% from beyond the arc. Wyoming’s 16-3 SU and 11-6 ATS record does improve here, and I am taking them at -3. The public is also on the side of Wyoming, so I expect this line to move quickly towards the Cowboys.

Cal State Bakersfield  vs. UT – Arlington

In this quarterfinal game of the NIT, we have the 6th and 8th seed left to come out of this region of the 32-team bracket. Both teams are starting to rack up impressive win totals on the season, as 6th seeded UT-Arlington is 27-8 SU and Cal State Bakersfield is 24-9 SU.

UT- Arlington possesses a very important advantage in this game, and that is that it will be played on their home court. At home this year the Mavericks have a perfect 14-0 SU record and 7-2 ATS record.  Compare this to Cal State Bakersfield, whose 8 of 9 SU losses on the year have come on the road. Both teams come into this matchup off of impressive SU and ATS wins so far in the NIT. The Roadrunners beat Cal and Colorado State SU as listed underdogs to get to this point, and UT-A beat BYU and Akron.

The Mavericks shoot great on their home court in averaging 85 points per game at a 50.4% clip from the field. They have a tendency to jump all over teams early at home too. On the year, UT-A has outscored their opponents 40.1 to 31.6 by halftime. Now on the other hand, the Roadrunners are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games as a road underdog. That has me skittish on the full game line of UT-A -6.5 points available across the board. However, the trend for UT-A on the first half is too strong not to take, and I will be laying 3.5-points on the first half with the Mavericks as one of my Wednesday college basketball picks.
