Huskers-Seminoles: The Situation
Florida State returns four starters this season from a team that went 22-14 last year but missed the NCAA tournament. However, the 'Noles are down two of those returning starters, guards Aaron Thomas and Devon Bookert, at the moment, and consequently they're off to a slow start, at 3-3 SU, 1-4 ATS.
FSU opened this season with an 81-66 victory over Manhattan, covering as an 11-point favorite, as Thomas and Bookert combined for 25 points, seven boards and nine assists. But the 'Noles then lost three games in a row, to Northeastern, Providence and Massachusetts, as Thomas and Bookert fell by the wayside. Florida State then beat Citadel 66-55 but came nowhere close to covering as a 20-point favorite, and last time out, last Friday, the Seminoles defeated Charleston Southern 58-47 in a game that wasn't even lined.
The 'Noles shot just 37 percent Friday, including 2/16 from long range, but held the Buccaneers to 29 percent shooting.
Nebraska returns all five starters from a team that went 19-13 last year and snapped a 15-year Big Dance drought. The Huskers are off to a 4-1 start this season, but they're also 0-3 ATS.
Nebraska started 2-0, with relatively easy victories over Northern Kentucky and Central Arkansas. The Huskers then lost 66-62 in overtime at Rhode Island on a very cold shooting night. Nebraska then shot 53 percent from the floor in beating Nebraska-Omaha 80-67, but couldn't quite cover the spread as a 14-point favorite, because it missed 13 of 31 free throws.
Last time out, last Friday, the Huskers beat Tennessee-Martin 75-64, but couldn't cover at -16.
Nebraska led by 13 at the half Friday, and by 19 early in the second half, but allowed the Skyhawks to rally to within 54-50 with nine minutes to go, eventually hanging on for the victory but not the cover.
The Huskers shot 47 percent from the floor, held Martin to 44 percent shooting, and won the battle on the boards 34-25.
Last time out Nebraska started one senior and four juniors, while Florida State started a senior, a junior, a sophomore and two freshmen.
Nebraska & Florida State's NCAA Basketball teams have no recent history, last meeting back in 2005, a 74-60 Florida State victory.

Huskers-Seminoles Free Pick
Florida State might be OK in the long run this season, if and when those two key players return to action, but at the moment the 'Noles are vulnerable. Meanwhile, Nebraska has a nice team. So we like the Huskers in this spot for our NCAA Basketball Pick today.
