Superstar freshman, Ben Simmons, and the #23 LSU Tigers are off to a quick 2-0 start to the season. The Tigers, our NCAA Basketball pick, must not let up now as they face a South Alabama Jaguars.

Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST tonight at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. According to 5 Dimes Sportsbook, lots of points are expected to be scored as the LSU Tigers are an 18 point betting favorite on the NCAA Basketball Odds board and the total for the game is listed at 161.

Top Freshman in the Nation
LSU has the golden jewel in the form of the top recruit, according to ESPN's top 100 Recruits, in Melbourne, Austrailia's Ben Simmons.

Simmons has already gotten a taste of college hoops and he appears to be the real deal in his 1 year stay on the LSU campus. For the season, Simmons is averaging 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and only 1.5 turnovers per game. It also helps to have a supporting cast that's one of the best in nation, but this kid is the real deal. We can say that he hasn't played a high level of competition as of yet, but barring injury, look for Simmons to have an outstanding season. There's nobody on the South Alabama squad that has a prayer of containing him.

Antonio Blakeney
This team is loaded with depth and freshman talent. Aside from Simmons, Blakeney will certainly have his named called in the 2016 NBA Draft as this kid has a bright future ahead of him.

Blakeney leads LSU at 18 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He has good size at 6 foot 4 and can knock down the 3-ball. Expect more of the same from Blakeney as well when the Tigers collide with South Alabama tonight at the Legends Classic. The way that Simmons and Blakeney are playing, they can possibly be future "legends".

Along with Blakeney and Simmons, freshman Brandon Sampson appears to be an instant contributor at 13.5 ppg. and junior guard, Tim Quarterman also has game as he averaged 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds last season. Quarterman might not play the same role as these are elite freshman that he's co-exisiting with, but he's definitely an important component of the LSU machine. I expect this team to go very far in the post season and they're far superior than their #23 ranking indicates.

Couldn't Hit the Side of a Barn
As for South Alabama, they got a taste of an ACC opponent and come out on the short end of the stick as they shot just 33% from the field against N.C, State and they were defeated by the Wolfpack, 88-70.

In this game, the Jaguars only got 22 points from their starters as opposed to 48 points from their bench. If the starters play well, this could be a high scoring affair as the total indicates. The Jaguars are the inferior squad, but are very deep as a team. Forwards Georgi Boyanov and Nick Stover combined for 0 for 10 shooting in their last game. Look for them to improve tonight as Boyanov's rebounding ability will be needed and Stover just had a poor showing. Nonetheless, the depth on this team could give LSU a run for their money where the betting spread is concerned.
