Some conference matchups have actually already begun as we are one week into the month of March. Let's see how this comes into play as we provide you with some betting totals in which we think that the bettor has the edge.

Detroit Titans vs. Cleveland State Vikings

2nd Round of the Horizon League Championship
Although Cleveland State has had a lot of success within the Horizon Conference, they're coming off of two consecutive losses to Valpo and Milwaukee and have no noteable wins outside the conference. Currently they're listed on the NCAA Basketball odds as -5.5 favorites, and for them to get an invitation to the Big Dance, they need to win the conference tournament.

Cleveland State has really slowed down offensively as of late. They're not a team that will put up 70 points on a team and Detroit has the psychological advantage. The Titans defeated Cleveland State 66-65 on February 13th and Detroit also defeated Youngstown State in the 1st round of the Horizon Championship, 77-67.

Detroit is a team that can put the ball in the hoop, averaging 71.3 points per game and will force Cleveland State to pick up the tempo. The total for the game is 131.5 and in an elimination game, both teams will be motivated. If in fact a team is behind by handful of points in the last minute or two of this game, unnecessary fouls will be committed as nobody wants to "go home". This game has over written all over it.

Done a Father Proud
It remains to be seen if Juwan Howard Jr. will live up to the level that his father played at in the NBA and we don't even know if he'll make it to the next level, but Howard Jr. has basketball in his future even if its overseas.

This is a player that can shoot the basketball at 41.8% from 3-point range, but is a bit undersized at 6 foot 5, 232 pounds to play the position that he's currently at. Nevertheless, Howard Jr. will make this game a competitive, high scoring game as he doesn't want his college basketball career to end.

In his last 4 games, Howard Jr. has had 3 games of 20 points or more and he will definitely be a factor facing a superior team which is coming off of a couple of disappointing losses.

I mentioned it before. There's no need to go further. Nobody wants to go home. The over is the play in this game.

Furman Paladins vs. The Citadel Bulldogs
1st Round Southern Conference Championship

Uninspired Basketball
Thankfully, we're not providing you with the side in this mess, the total should be quite easy. As you can see, these teams are going absolutely nowhere where the post-season is concerned, but the objective of the team is to go as far as they can and as I've stated before; nobody want's to go home.

Furman has lost 8 out of their last 9 games, but has faired pretty well against the Citadel. They've split the season series with the Bulldogs thus far. On January 14th, they beat the Bulldogs 74-62 and on February 19th, they played a much lower scoring game and lost in overtime at home, 62-56. This is the rubber match for all of the marbles (to advance) and the total is quite low at 126.

Stephen Croone's Status
This could be the difference between an over and an under as Croone is Furman's leading scorer and has had his status upgrade as probable for tonight's game.

I'm assuming that he will play as this game is the season if he doesn't. Croone had difficulties living up to his 19.8 points per game last season, but is still a big producer. In his last 3 games, he's averaged 18 points per game and is not afraid to shoot the basketball. Where the over is concerned, we want guys that like to shoot and with Croone being upgraded to probable, I feel more secure with the over on a low total.

Ashton Moore
We have another one of those players that "never met a shot that he didn't like", in Bulldogs guard Ashton Moore. Moore is coming off of an awful 2 for 12 shooting performance from 3-point range in a loss to West Carolina, but he still managed to put up the numbers. This is a super-active player that can do it all at just 6 foot 1, 172 pounds. Expect a bounce back performance out of Moore, who averages 18.2 points per game. Look for the over with your NCAA basketball picks as this total is quite low and these teams know the urgency of elimination situation.
