Washington State takes on the Buffaloes. The NCAA basketball odds boards have come out making Colorado a solid favorite, and for good reason, but will the underdog reign supreme?

NCAA basketball odds boards have come out making Colorado a solid -9.5 favorite like at Bookmaker -110. I have always been under the impression it is not easy to beat a team three times in one season and this line is pretty big at close to double digits. I think the three time rule applies here so for one of my NCAA basketball picks I will be backing Washington State plus the points.

Washington State Cougars
Washington State has lost 16 straight games and rank as one of the worst defensive teams in the NCAA Tournament. They were not expected to do much this season and that has proven very true with a horrible 1-17 record in PAC 12 play and I highly doubt Ernie Kent will be there next season. Offensively they have been decent at times but they're so poor on the defensive end and have been allowing opponents around an average of 80 points per game in league play.

All that being said they did take Colorado to overtime in Colorado so they should come into this game with some surprising confidence to pull off the upset. Statistically they are better shooting team than Colorado across the board except for beyond the arc. If the Cougars can defend from distance decently they should make this game a lot more interesting than people anticipate. This team can score and I expect them to be able to score tonight.

Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado already beat Washington State twice this season by five and seven points (overtime) respectively, but they have lost three of their last five games. For the most part Colorado has been competitive throughout the league schedule and have really bounced back from a tough last season. They shoot the three extremely well averaging 39.3% from distance which ranks 16th in the country. They also are very good rebounding team averaging 42 boards per game which ranks fifth.

What could be a little bit worrisome for them is that if they are not hitting from beyond the arc they most likely will struggle as they average just 43.8% on their two-point shots which ranks in the very bottom part of all NCAA teams. Defensively they are decent, but this is a tough spot for them tonight having to beat a team for the third time that has been more than competitive with them and has nothing to lose.
