Updated 2014 NCAA Basketball Future Odds

Not smart

Oklahoma State picked up a 81-75 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers as 13.5-point home favorites last Saturday—a surprising result due to star point guard Marcus Smart scoring only four points in going 1 for 7 from the field before fouling out.

Smart has averaged 19.0 points on 41.7 percent shooting in two career games versus the Sooners, while dishing out seven assists and committing seven turnovers.

It’s important to point out that the program is 0-4 ATS in its last four trips to Norman.

Solid basketball

Oklahoma has won three games in a row, including a 74-65 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders as one-point road underdogs last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total for a fifth consecutive contest.

The Sooners are the only Big 12 squad to use the same starting lineup in every game this season—accounting for 79 percent of the team’s point production.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 2-3 SU and 3-2 ATS as home underdogs of 3.5 to 6 points.

Bad situation

College basketball handicappers need to think twice before backing the Cowboys, as they’ve failed to cover the number in both opportunities as road favorites of 3.5 to 6 points during the 2013-14 campaign.

The home team has won each of the past four seasons, with Oklahoma State taking the lone neutral-site affair since 2009.

From way downtown

The Sooners will win this game if they continue to shoot 42.1 percent from beyond the arc at this venue—a tough number to reach against a Cowboys defense that allows opponents to knock down just 29.9 percent of their shots from that area.

Oklahoma leads the Big 12 with 8.7 3-point makes per game during conference play, which has been helped by knocking down 13 in games against Iowa State and Texas.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Cowboys with their NCAA Basketball picks, as the Sooners are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.

Oklahoma may also tire down the stretch, as it will be playing its fourth contest since Jan. 18, while Oklahoma State will be playing just its third game over that stretch.
