Our NCAA basketball odds consultant shares his two top totals picks on Wednesday’s card. Go inside to find out what those picks are and why he’s opted for them.

Savannah State vs. Utah 8:00 PM ET
Savannah State has gone 0-4 on the road so far this season, averaging a paltry 54.7 points scored per contest, and is shooting 37.4% from the field. They’re a terrible free throw shooting team that’s converted on only 62% of their attempts this season. Savannah State has made just 33.3% of their three point attempts on the year. However, they shot 52% or better from the field in each of their previous two contests. They’ll be facing a Utah team tonight which has so far allowed opponents to convert on 42.0% of their three point attempts. Current (11:50 AM ET) NCAA Basketball odds at 5Dimes lists a total of 138.0 for this game.

Any team (Savannah State) with a total of 130.0 to 139.5, converting on 32.0% to 36.5% of their three point attempts, and they shot 50% or better from the field in each of their last two games, versus an opponent (Utah) with a three point defensive field goal percentage of 36% or greater, resulted in those games going 24-4 (85.7%) under the total during the past five seasons. The average total in those 28 contests was 135.2, and there were an average of just 126.0 points scored per game.

Illinois State vs. Illinois-Chicago 9:00 PM ET
Illinois State is averaging 65.2 points scored per game, and is shooting only 40.2% from the field. The Cardinals are converting on a terrible 31.1% of their three point attempts, and a pathetic 58.4% of their free throws. Illinois State has gone 3-0 under the total during their last three outings, and there was a combined average of 132.3 points scored per game.

Illinois-Chicago has gone 4-1 under the total versus Division-1 opponents this season. They average 68.9 points scored per game, and have shot a dismal 38.8% from the field thus far. Similar to their opponent (Illinois State) tonight, they’ve displayed terrible three-point (30.7%) and free throw (61.0%) shooting.

Neither of these teams are offensive juggernauts by any stretch. Relative to the current total, I like this game to be a low scoring affair. One of my NCAA Basketball picks on Wednesday will emulate that prediction.
