There are always good Monday matchups in college hoops and tonight Northwestern travels to Michigan, while Kansas State hosts Kansas. Is there value in grabbing the underdogs with your NCAAB picks?

Northwestern was predicted to be much better than what we have seen this season but they have won their past two games, which could be an indicator they are heading in the right direction. Michigan has been extremely good, especially at home, but I like how Northwestern matches up with them. With my NCAAB picks in this spot I will take Northwestern plus the points posted on the NCAAB odds board, because I don’t look for this to be an up-and-down affair. Although statistically across the board Michigan is the better offensive team, Northwestern has shown the ability to play some good defense. I particularly like the fact Northwestern is allowing opponents just 52.3 attempts from the floor, which ranks 11th in the country. As well, they are allowing just 23.4 opponent field goals made per game, ranking among the best. This will be crucial against a Michigan team that is shooting about 47 percent from the floor and almost 37 percent from distance. However, Michigan is also allowing opponents just 52.4 attempts per game, so I look for this to be a slow-paced affair.

Although Kansas is ranked fifth in the nation and K-State is unranked, the visiting Jayhawks opened as just a -1.5 favorite on the NCAAB odds board. That makes perfect sense considering they escaped in their first matchup of the season at home, 73-72. For my NCAA pick in the rematch, I will take Kansas State plus the points, but I like for them to pull the upset. In my opinion Kansas is just a little bit down from what we have seen in seasons past, so this is a good opportunity for the Wildcats, who have won four games in a row. Both teams have been shooting extremely well from the floor but it seems Kansas State has gone under the radar despite the fact they are shooting 48.8 percent from the floor and rank 21st in the country in shooting efficiency. As well, they have been very solid on the defensive end and they match up well with a Kansas team that likes to shoot the three, as they allow opponents to shoot just 31.6 percent from distance. I think this will be a very difficult game for Kansas and most likely I will back Kansas State on the plus money line.
