At first glance the line between UAB and BYU seems a bit off as NCAA basketball odds makers have made the Cougars a strong home favorite. Who will be our pick?

NCAA basketball odds makers have come out making BYU a solid -9.5 favorite like at Pinnacle Sports -106. For one of my NCAA basketball picks I'm going to take BYU minus the points as I look for them to win this game by well into double digits. With their pace and offensive efficiency I think UAB will have trouble keeping up.

UAB Blazers
UAB averages 77.8 points per game and rank third in the country averaging 18.2 assists per game. They had a tremendous season in Conference USA only to get shocked in their league tournament by Western Kentucky. They are very similar to BYU in the aspect that they like to get up and down the floor and are a good offensive team. However, on the defensive side I think they're going to have a lot of trouble getting stops as BYU will be arguably the best offensive team they have faced all season. Teams with good offensive statistics of their own like Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky gave UAB a bit of trouble this season. I look for a similar type of scenario tonight except BYU is better than both of those teams and at home they are extremely tough to beat. Defensively UAB allows teams to get up 60.1 field-goal attempts per game which ranks 266 in the country. This ultimately will be their downfall tonight.

BYU Cougars
BYU averages 83.2 points per game which ranks seventh in the country an average 29.3 field goals made per game which ranks fourth. Offensively they have been one of the best programs in the country for the last several years. They run at an incredible pace averaging 64 field-goal attempts per game which ranks seventh in the country. Defensively they are not great but they are still good at home and have decent statistics across the board. Like UAB they allow opponents to get up a lot of shots per game, actually ranking worse in the Blazers, but it works out for them really well and at home they can put up a lot of points in a hurry. BYU is also one of the best rebounding teams in the country averaging 40.9 boards per game which ranks 12th in NCAA basketball. As well, although UAB is very good at moving the ball so is BYU averaging 16.2 assists per game. This game sets up to be at a fast pace from the very first tip and I believe that will favor BYU to win this game by double digits as they pull away in the second half.
