Back ASU as home ‘chalk’
Sportsbooks opened Arizona State as a six-point home favorite, with initial wagers on the Sun Devils lifting the number a ‘hook’ to 6 ½. Both squads resume action in Thursday’s Wooden Legacy, with Marquette battling Cal State Fullerton and ASU meeting Creighton.
I am tailing the early ‘steam,’ laying the points with Arizona State as part of Monday’s NCAAB picks.
ASU has held visiting foes to 58.2 PPG at home, with Jordan Bachynski leading the Pacific-12 Conference in blocks (4.4 BPG) and ranking second in rebounds (12 RPG). The Sun Devils also answered the bell in Tuesday’s tough test against the UNLV Rebels, rallying in the second half for an 86-80 win as five-point road ‘chalk.’
Marquette has struggled in its last two affairs, with a trip to Tempe not making matters any easier for Buzz Williams’ crew. The Golden Eagles fell flat in last season’s first true road spot, dropping an 82-49 contest as 10 ½-point dogs against the Florida Gators.
Otule was held scoreless on that occasion, with he and his mates connecting from the floor at a subpar 41.2 percent clip. Marquette has logged a 1-5-1 spread record in its last seven non-conference games, while Arizona State is 10-1-1 ATS in its last dozen matchups that came after missing a pointspread cover.
Look for the Sun Devils to pull off a sizable win, building some final momentum into this week’s tourney trip, be sure to add them to your NCAAB picks this today.
