Texas Southern has already pulled off the season’s first big upset, and now the Tigers will try and really grab the headlines when they travel to Gonzaga for a clash against the perennial powerhouse Bulldogs.

One of the final games on Saturday’s NCAA basketball odds card, the matchup tips a little past 11 p.m. (ET) from McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane. The late start will keep most of the country from seeing the matchup, along with the fact the only way to tune in is via the West Coast Conference television network (TheW.tv).

Zags Explode For 120 In Their Season Opener

The Johnny Jones era got off to a great start Tuesday in Waco where the Texas Southern Tigers were 22-point underdogs against Baylor but won 72-69. Texas Southern came out aggressive before going to the locker room down by 13 and seeing that deficit increase to 17 less than seven minutes into the second half. LSU transfer Jalyn Patterson ignited the rally, scoring a game-high 23, and capped the Tigers’ rally with a clinching 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds. Trayvon Reed, another SEC transfer from Auburn, added 15 points to go with 12 boards while handing the Bears their first loss to an SWAC school.

Mark Few’s 20th season also began with a big win on Tuesday when Gonzaga netted 60 in each half of a 120-79 beatdown of Idaho State. Closing as 30-point chalk at Bookmaker, Gonzaga won every statistical battle by shooting better than 58%, pulling down 42 rebounds and dishing 29 assists against just seven turnovers. With star Killian Tillie out for the first two months due to an ankle injury, the Bulldogs turned to Rui Hachimura to lead the way, and the junior forward didn’t disappoint with a career-high 33 points in his 24 minutes on the floor. Zach Norvell Jr. added 23 while accounting for seven of the 29 assists, and San Jose State transfer Brandon Clarke finished one board short of a double-double in his first game for Gonzaga.

Will TSU’s Upset Change Spread On Betting Board?

It will be interesting to see how line accounts for Texas Southern’s upset of Baylor along with the recent history between these schools. The Tigers and Bulldogs have met three times in the last 10 years, the Zags winning each encounter by an average of more than 33 points. The sides met exactly one year ago to open the 2017-18 campaign, and Gonzaga scored a 97-69 decision that didn’t even make the board at most wagering outlets.

Texas Southern already showed it won’t give up when trailing, and as long as the books are giving me 28+, I’m willing to back the Tigers with my free college basketball pick.
