Hoping to get help the Big Ten atone for last year’s poor showing against the ACC, Nebraska is a small underdog on the college basketball odds at Clemson on Monday.

Bienvenidos, Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Helping to ease the heartache of seeing the treasure trove of early-season college hoops tournaments come to an end, the 20th running of the interconference showdown hits the stage Monday night when the Nebraska Cornhuskers visit the Clemson Tigers in the first of 14 games between the Big Ten and ACC.

While a Cornhuskers and Tigers matchup might seem a bit ho-hum to tip the event, it is a clash of squads that are each expected to contend for an invite the big stage next March. The Big Ten is hoping to atone for an embarrassingly lopsided showing last year when the ACC came out on top ion 11 of the 14 contests. Clemson is a small favorite to get the ACC off to a winning start this season, scoreboard bettors looking somewhere around 140 for their decisions.

Tigers 0-3 ATS At Home To Begin 2018-19

Routed by Texas Tech at the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City last Tuesday, Nebraska came home Saturday to host Western Illinois and, following a slow start out of the gate, got things together midway through the first half to cruise to a 73-49 victory. A 22-0 run in the first half fueled the cover as 24-point chalk at Bookmaker, Glynn Watson Jr. leading the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. James Palmer Jr. added 19 and the Cornhuskers committed just nine turnovers.

Meanwhile in the finals of the Cayman Islands Classic last Wednesday, Clemson suffered its first loss in a mild upset to Creighton, 87-82. Closing as 5-point favorites on NCAA basketball odds boards, the Tigers trailed by 10 at halftime and were never able to catch the Bluejays in the final 20 minutes. Four Clemson cagers scored in double-figures, led by Marcquise Reed’s season-high 27, and the Tigers shot better than 53% but turned it over 19 times to a Creighton crew that swished the nets at better than a 55% clip.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

JPJ's in attack mode. 🎮 pic.twitter.com/SlOMTBbXUc
— Nebraska Basketball (@HuskerHoops) November 24, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

’Under’ An Easy Winner In Previous Meeting

It’s just the second time the Cornhuskers and Tigers have gone to battle on the hardwood, the first taking place in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge two years ago in, also in South Carolina. Clemson avoided a big upset in a 60-58 decision, thanks in large part to a couple of long scoring droughts for Nebraska. The Tigers were 10½-point favorites with the final falling well short of a 137-point total.

Defense, especially on Nebraska’s end of the floor, is the reason why I smell an outright upset in this one and will take the points for my free college basketball pick.
