The NCAA basketball odds favor the Marquette Golden Eagles to avenge a loss to Seton Hall a little more than a week ago when the schools meet Friday.

The Golden Eagles coach just can’t spend too long catching his breath with a semifinal matchup on Friday against a Seton Hall side that was part of the losing streak.

Capping off another day of action inside fabled Madison Square Garden, Fox Sports 1 will carry the contest beginning about a half-hour after Villanova and Xavier finish their clash in the other semifinal. A quick check of the NCAA basketball odds board finds Marquette carrying a small chalk line over the Pirates, and it will be interesting to see where the total eventually falls after their two collisions during the regular season each fell short.

Powell & Howard Each Coming Off 30+ Point Games

Kevin Willard’s crew continued its strong end to the regular season with a comfortable 73-57 decision against Georgetown in the final quarterfinal contest on Thursday. After a bit of a slow start and trailing early, Seton Hall ran away from the Hoyas behind the sharpshooting of Myles Powell who netted 29 of his game-high 31 in the first half. It was the third time in the last four games the junior scored 30+, one of those a 34-point effort nine days ago against Marquette in a 73-64 upset.

Big East Player of the Year Markus Howard was held to six points in that game at Seton Hall, connecting on just two of his 11 field goal attempts and turning the ball over five times. Howard had his touch back in Thursday’s 86-54 rout of St. John’s as the Golden Eagles easily covered a closing -4 spread at Bookmaker. The junior scored 30 and canned all 11 of his free throws to help Marquette answer each Red Storm rally attempt. The final couldn’t quite make it to the 148-point mark, the fifth ‘under’ winner in the Eagles’ last six games.

Underdog Has Covered 13 Of Last 16 Meetings

Both matchups between Marquette and Seton Hall this season also came up short of the totals, first with the Golden Eagles’ 70-66 win in Milwaukee and again in the Pirates’ 73-64 number in Newark. Hall covered both affairs, and the win near the end of the regular season stopped a 3-game run in the series for Marquette. The Golden Eagles lead the rivalry 19-8, all but the first meeting way back in 1956 coming since Marquette joined the Big East.

So, who has the bigger game tonight, Powell or Howard?
