Eagles look for Upset of Hoyas in 2nd Round NCAA Tourney Encounter
The #13 seed Eastern Washington Eagles (26-8) will take on the #5 seed Georgetown Hoyas (21-10) in a South Regional game on Thursday. The game will be played at the Rose Quarter in Portland, Oregon with a slated 9:57 PM ET start. According to the NCAA Tournament odds at Bookmaker, Georgetown is a 7.5 point favorite, and the posted total is 147.5.

Eagles won’t be Awe Struck
All you need to do is look at how the Eastern Washington Eagles fared in the nonconference portion of their schedule, and it’s easy to understand why they won’t be intimidated by facing an opponent from a power conference. After all, this is a team that went to Indiana and defeated the Hoosiers 88-86 as a 12.5 point underdog. They were easily inside the number as a 15.0 point underdog at nationally ranked SMU in a 77-68 loss, and also covered as a 7.5 point underdog during a 81-77 defeat at Washington.

Dynamic Offensive Team
They say the great equalizer for a college basketball underdog is the ability to knock down an abundance of three point shots. If that’s indeed the case, then the Eagles are an extremely live underdog. They’re averaging ten three-point makes per game, and are converting on an excellent 40.8% of their attempts. Eastern Washington is averaging a robust 80.8 points per game, and has shot a stellar 48.0% from the field this season.

Unimpressive Finish to the Big East Slate for Hoyas
I wasn’t the least bit impressed by the Georgetown Hoyas in their last six games. They did manage to go 4-2 in those contests, but also failed to cover on five occasions. The Hoyas scored just 63-points or less in three of its previous four games, and shot 40% or less from the field in three of the last five. They’ve also been dominated on the boards during the previous four contests, evidenced by a -7.7 rebound per game differential during that time.

Final Analysis
The last time the Georgetown Hoyas were in the NCAA Tournament was in 2013, and they were eliminated in their first game, suffering a humiliating 78-68 upset loss at the hands of Florida Gulf Coast. As a matter of fact, since reaching the “Final Four” in 2007, the Hoyas have gone a dismal 2-5 in the NCAA Tournament, and all under the watchful eye of current head coach John Thompson III. Four of those losses (Ohio, VCU, Florida Gulf Coast, and Davidson) came versus opponents who don’t play in one of the six power conferences. In my professional opinion, this is too many points to give an undervalued mid-major. I’m siding with the underdog in this contest for one of my NCAA Tournament  picks
