Old Dominion has dropped nine straight matchups, held to 57.3 PPG en route to a 1-8 spread record. Will the Monarchs end their slide here or will George Mason hand their rivals another losing ticket?

Bailout Monday: George Mason visits ODU

Monday’s NCAAB betting has Blaine Taylor’s troops hosting the George Mason Patriots, who are 7-2 ATS in their last nine meetings with ODU.

Patriots, Wright triumph at JMU

George Mason ended a two-game losing skid with Saturday’s 74-63 victory as a 1 ½-point road dog against the James Madison Dukes. The Patriots connected from the floor at a 49 percent clip, while sinking 23-of-26 free throws.

George Mason’s Sherrod Wright notched 22 points, while adding a season-high 11 boards for his first double-double. Patriots mates Bryon Allen and Corey Edwards logged seven assists and three steals, respectively, finishing with a combined 16 points.

The duel’s combined 137 points leaped above the ‘total’ of 123 ½, ending a 2-0 UNDER run from the Patriots’ prior pair of games. George Mason out-rebounded the Dukes, 32-22, while Patriots forwards Jonathan Arledge and Erik Copes recorded one block each.

Monarchs, Painter thrashed at Georgia State

Old Dominion’s latest defeat came in Saturday’s 83-63 setback to the Georgia State Panthers, falling as an eight-point road dog. The Monarchs allowed Georgia State to hit 53.8 percent of its field buckets, including a 16-for-33 day beyond the arc.

Monarchs center DeShawn Painter came away with his fourth double-double in 10 games, logging 15 points and 14 rebounds. Old Dominion’s Keenan Palmore notched four of his side’s 10 assists, while mates Richard Ross and Nick Wright united to knock down 11-of-23 floor shots.

The lopsided contest’s 146 points jumped OVER the NCAAB betting odds ‘total’ of 132 ½, with both squads combining to sink 28-of-41 free throws. ODU was held to 32.3 percent shooting, while edging out the Panthers in boards, 39-28.

Back George Mason as road ‘chalk’ opened George Mason as a 6 ½-point road favorite, while first listing the ‘total’ at 129 ½. The Patriots will be off until Saturday’s home affair with the Delaware Blue Hens, while Old Dominion resumes action in two days with Thursday’s trip to meet the Drexel Dragons.

I am laying the points in this spot with George Mason as part of my sports picks for “Bailout Monday.”  The Patriots have cashed with a 5-2 spread record in their last seven matchups away from home, including a 2-1 ATS mark in that span’s three spots as a favorite.

George Mason's Sherrod Wright has moved to rank third in scoring (18.1 PPG) among Colonial Athletic Association foes, while mates Bryon Allen and Erik Copes are among the conference’s top five for assists (3.3 APG) and blocks (1.5 BPG).

George Mason crushed the Monarchs last month in a 71-46 victory, pulling away as 11 ½-point home ‘chalk.’ The Patriots held ODU to 25 percent shooting, while George Mason’s Patrick Holloway and Paris Bennett hit 12-of-16 field buckets en route to 28 combined points.

The shift to Norfolk for this rematch will not be a big help to Old Dominion, with the Monarchs connecting from their home floor at a meager 39.2 percent this year. Look for George Mason to hand ODU another sizable defeat here.
