Wednesday’s hardwood action has Gregg Marshall’s troops in their first road test against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Who should we be backing today for our NCAAB picks?

The Wichita State Shockers stayed unbeaten with Saturday’s 85-71 victory over the Tennessee State Tigers, while falling at NCAAB betting odds windows as 24-point home ‘chalk.’

Shockers, Cotton pull away

Shockers guard Tekele Cotton drained 4-of-4 buckets from three-point range against the Tigers, notching a team-high 18 points. Wichita State’s Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker logged seven boards each, while Early recorded two of his side’s three blocks.

Baker united with mate Fred VanVleet for 14 assists and six steals, while the Shockers sank 20-of-30 free throws. The duel’s combined 156 points jumped OVER the ‘total’ of 140, surging in the final 20 minutes after a tight 29-28 halftime lead for Tennessee State.

Shockers sophomore Nick Wiggins led the team’s bench with 12 points in 20 minutes of action, knocking down 4-of-5 floor shots. Wichita State outrebounded the Tigers, 36-30, while allowing a 44.8 percent day of field shooting.

Tulsa, Harrison cash in shootout

The same date’s card saw Tulsa edged in a 96-93 defeat to the Missouri State Bears, while holding on to cash as a 4 ½-point road dog. Danny Manning’s squad blew a 10-point lead in the second half, giving up a 33-21 run from the Bears.

Tulsa’s Shaquille Harrison piled in 21 points, while uniting with mate James Woodard for five steals. Golden Hurricane forward Rashad Smith drilled 9-of-11 free throws en route to 19 points, fouling out with four boards and one block.

Tulsa allowed the Bears to connect from the field at 50 percent, including a 9-for-15 mark beyond the arc. OVER backers cashed well before the final stretch, with the battle’s 189 points soaring above the ‘total’ of 143.

Back Tulsa as a home dog

Wichita State opened as a five-point road favorite at Ladbrokes, with the number holding steady in mixed action. The Shockers will have four days off before resuming action in Monday’s CBE Hall of Fame Classic against DePaul, while Tulsa visits the Creighton Bluejays as part of Saturday’s hoops slate.

I am adding Tulsa to Wednesday’s sports picks, taking the points at Reynolds Center.

Tulsa dropped last week’s home opener to the Oral Roberts, 74-68, but found the rims at a sizable 50 percent on its floor. Shaquille Harrison and Rashad Smith combined for 37 points, while the duo and their mates dropped the matchup due to a bad day at the foul line (17-for-36).

The Golden Hurricane cashed with a 2-0 spread record in last season’s pair of spots as home dogs, collecting in close contests against the UTEP Miners and Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Tulsa should continue showing improvement here, while looking to avenge last November’s 86-60 spanking from the Shockers.

Wichita State was not consistent in last season’s campaign at betting windows, logging a 2-6 spread mark in the year’s first eight spots as a true road favorite. The stretch included SU defeats at Tennessee and Evansville, laying short numbers in those setbacks.

Look for the Shockers to take Tulsa too lightly here for our NCAAB picks, picking up another losing ticket in their present 1-4-1 ATS stretch against rivals with non-winning records.

Free Pick: Tulsa Golden Hurricane +5 at Ladbrokes
