After a quick 5-0 start to the season, the Iowa State Cyclones have suffered two consecutive losses against very good teams. Their schedule starts to calm down again as they square off against a very weak Omaha team. As the heavy favorite, can the Cyclones turn the "on" switch again?

Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks vs. #19 Iowa State Cyclones

Momentum For Omaha

I would consider its momentum after the Mavericks have taken down their last two opponents in the Cal State Fullerton Titans and Iowa Hawkeyes, but they defeated two losing squads as the Hawkeyes are far from what they once were. That said, the schedule only demands that a respective team attempt to defeat the teams on their schedule and Omaha is coming into this game with some momentum and is the large betting underdog. Ames will be rocking, but will the Cyclones be swishing and dishing?

Tre'Shawn Thurman

This is also an Omaha team that can light up the scoreboard, averaging 84 points per game. The problem is that they're weak on the boards and also on the defensive end of the court. Look for junior forward, Tre'Shawn Thurman to play well in this game for Omaha. He's been consistently producing and the stat lines don't lie.

In his last 3 games, he's looked for his shot more, averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds. He has the size and is one of the stronger defensive players on this Mavericks squad. I look for Thurman to be one of the go-to guys against the Cyclones.

The one thing that can be said for Iowa State in their two losses is that they were very competitive and could've won each game. They lost to Cincy and Gonzaga by a combined 3 points. It doesn't get any closer than that.

The one thing missing in the Cyclones defeat at the hands of Iowa was the production of guard Nazareth Mitrou-Long. While Monte Morris was carrying the Cyclones, Mitrou-Long picked the wrong time to have a poor game as he went 0 for 7 from the field and was held scoreless. While he's not an efficient shooter that will sometimes chuck the basketball up, Iowa State need's his production. I don't know if we see a bounce back effort from Mitrou-Long and quite frankly, the Iowa State "Big 3" needs to play better. Momentum is always a factor and I'm siding with Omaha for my NCAA basketball pick.
