The Wisconsin Badgers have been one of the more impressive teams in the country this season, as they get set to face off against the Northwestern Wildcats Thursday.

Let’s take a closer look at the NCAA basketball odds for this Big Ten Conference affair at Welsh-Ryan Arena, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Strong resume

Wisconsin is off to its best start in 100 years with a 13-0 SU record, which includes an 80-43 victory over Prairie View last Saturday.

The Wildcats have proven they can win utilizing various styles of play this season, as they’ve scored 80 or more points five times, while also allowing their fewest points in a true road game since 1957 when capturing a 48-38 win over Virginia on Dec. 4.

It’s important to point out that the program is 28-29 ATS as a favorite the last two-plus seasons.

Northwestern has put together a pair of three-game winning streaks during the 2013-14 campaign, but its last one was snapped in suffering a 57-56 defeat to the DePaul Blue Demons as 4.5-point home favorites last Friday.

The Wildcats have just one player averaging double figures, with guard/forward Drew Crawford scoring 16.4 points per game, but reserve Tre Demps registered a career-high 23 points last time out.

The program is 2-4 SU and 1-5 ATS versus teams with a winning record this season.

Recent history

College basketball handicappers will have an interest in backing the Badgers as road favorites, considering they’ve won six consecutive games in the series by an average of 18.7 points.

Wisconsin has compiled a 11-1 SU record in the last 12 meetings—winning the rebounding battle in each of those affairs by 12.8 boards per game.

Opening things up

The Wildcats have dropped their last seven Big Ten openers, while the Badgers have won 10 straight games in that situation by an average of 17.1 points.

Wisconsin has two players from the Chicagoland area—with starters Ben Brust and Frank Kaminsky returning home.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Badgers for their college basketball picks, as the favorite has covered the number in the last four meetings in this series.
