The last time we ran over the college basketball odds, Miami was favored by 16.5 points at a majority of the books. The total is at 133.
This season the Hurricanes are a very healthy 15-7-1 ATS, while the Hokies have recorded a 11-11-2 ATS mark.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies ended a nine-game losing streak by beating Florida State 80-70 on Sunday. Coming in they were two-point underdogs.
We've gotten used to seeing Erick Green carry the load offensively, and he did it once again in the win over the Seminoles. He had 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting and 9-of-9 from the line and added five assists and four rebounds.
Green did get some help this time around, with C.J. Barksdale putting up 17 points and nine boards. Robert Brown's 11 points off the bench were also key.
Now Virginia Tech will head back on the road, where it's obviously been a struggle. The Hokies have covered in only one of their last five contests outside of Blacksburg.
You have to think Green will get his, but others are simply going to have to step it up if the Hokies are to have any chance of staying close with a wounded Miami team. If Virginia Tech's shots aren't falling early, this could get out of hand rather quickly.
It was always going to be hard for the Hurricanes to go undefeated in the ACC. The good times came to an end over the weekend in a road loss to Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons have had a tough year, but they're extremely tough to beat in their building. Miami was held to 39.1 percent shooting and watched on as Wake Forest shot 54.2 percent from the field.
Durant Scott led Miami with 17 points, while Shane Larkin, Trey McKinney Jones and Kenny Kadji all hit double figures as well. The Hurricanes dug themselves a hole (42-29 deficit) in the first half and couldn't recover.
Perhaps it's better that Miami lost now instead of in the ACC tournament or the NCAA Tournament. They found out that they're now untouchable and that they're going to have to bring it every single game.
Being back at home tonight should come in handy. The Hurricanes are 6-1 ATS in their previous seven contests at home and have also done well after SU losses – they're 5-1 ATS in their last six following a defeat.
College Basketball Pick
The Hurricanes have done well against the Hokies in recent meetings, going 4-1 ATS in the past five head-to-head matchups.
Earlier this season Miami won by nine on the road, barely falling short of a cover as 9.5-point favorites. Larkin had 25 points, while Kadji and McKinney Jones both came through with big games as well.
The Hurricanes were given a wakeup call against Wake Forest and we feel they're going to come out with a renewed focus and energy this evening. Green is a stud, but Miami has far more weapons and are capable of blowing out anyone in front of their own crowd.
At 9-1 ATS on their home floor this season, the Hurricanes have been making a ton of money for backers. We're going that route again tonight and backing Miami to bounce back in a big way.
