Stew Morrill’s troops head to Salt Lake City’s EnergySolutions Arena for Saturday’s NCAAB betting, meeting the Brigham Young Cougars.

The Utah State Aggies moved to a 5-0 spread record with Tuesday’s 77-71 victory over the Weber State Wildcats, collecting as 3 ½-point road favorites.

Aggies, Davis outgun Weber State

Utah State pulled off a 27-21 run in the final nine minutes against Weber State, with forward Kyle David piling in 12 points through the late surge. The freshman forward added a season-high 14 rebounds, picking up his first double-double.

Utah State’s Jarred Shaw and Spencer Butterfield united to knock down 14-of-26 floor shots, finishing with 36 points. Shaw logged his side’s sole two blocks, while mate Preston Medlin logged seven assists en route to 13 points.

Utah State was outrebounded by a 32-28 margin, while the back-and-forth battle saw an early 14-5 lead erased in the first half. The Aggies sank 17-of-22 free throws, including a combined 8-for-9 outing from Shaw and Medlin.

Cougars, Carlino fall to Shockers

Brigham Young saw action on the same night’s card, picking up a 75-62 defeat as a 4 ½-point underdog to the Wichita State Shockers. The neutral-site affair at Kansas City’s Sprint Center saw the Cougars held to 31 percent field shooting, falling in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic’s title matchup.

Cougars guard Matt Carlino piled in 21 points in 39 minutes of action, draining 4-of-9 buckets from three-point land. Brigham Young’s Tyler Haws connected from the foul line at an 11-for-11 clip, notching 17 points and two of his side’s five steals.

The duel’s combined 137 points plunged below the NCAAB odds ‘total’ of 166 ½, moving the UNDER to 3-0 in BYU’s last trio of contests. Cougars mates Nate Austin and Kyle Collinsworth united for 21 boards, with Austin held scoreless for the first time this season.

Back BYU as a short fave

Brigham Young opened as a one-point favorite, with initial wagers on the Cougars adding a minus 115 premium to their side. BYU will be idle for two days before hosting the North Texas Mean Green, while Utah State looks ahead to a week off prior to facing the Pacific Tigers.

I am tailing the early ‘steam’ here, backing Brigham Young as part of Saturday’s sports picks.

BYU is in position to regroup from its season-low scoring against Wichita State, taking a drop in class from that affair to this matchup. The Cougars responded from their first defeat against Iowa State to edging the Texas Longhorns in Monday’s 86-82 win.

Utah State faces its season's first spot as an underdog, having tighter margins of victory away from home. The Aggies fell short in March's most recent neutral-site duel against the Texas-Arlington Mavericks, 83-78, while coming into this spot dropping four of their last six meetings with BYU.

Brigham Young leads the West Coast Conference in rebounding (43.9 RPG) thanks to its duo of Nate Austin (9.4 RPG) and Kyle Collinsworth (8.4 RPG). Tyler Haws piled in 27 points in last February’s 70-68 victory over Utah State, with the Cougars coming out on top despite an off night of 35.2 percent field shooting.

Look for BYU to cruise for a more sizable triumph this time around for your NCAAB picks, while fueled by ending Weber State’s winning streak in this spot.
