Free NCAA Basketball Pick: Maryland Terrapins -22
Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST this afternoon as XFINITY Center in College Park, Maryland. According to 5Dimes Sportsbook NCAA Basketball odds board, the Terps are a 22 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 156.5. Maryland is a difficult team to fade even at these odds. Is there any reason why we should is the question at hand?

Flashback: I remember writing the Maryland vs. Princeton game, and although Princeton has had a successful season up until that point, I clearly noted that the ACC is at a different level than the Ivy League and sure enough, Maryland put a beating on the Tigers, 82-61. Now, it's on to a team in a different conference in the Marshall Thundering Herd, and why should we expect Maryland to handle Marshall any different than Princeton?

Scoring Efficiency and Rebounding Ability
The one weakness to the Terrapins squad is their ability to rebound the basketball. They average just 34 rebounds per game. That said, this is a team, on the offensive end, that doesn't need many 2nd opportunities as they shoot collectively over 50% from the field and are a 40% shooting 3-point team. The Terrapins average 80 points per ball game, and thus far, it's been good enough to make them one of the best teams in the country. I don't see their lack of rebounding hurting them in this matchup.

Melo Trimble
You can't mention the Terrapins without mentioning leading scorer Melo Trimble, who is a super sophomore that is working on his game and looking to get to the next level.

At 15 points, 5.2 assists, and 1.6 steals, he's doing a great job of attaining this goal. Let's not forget to mention that Trimble shoots 52.1% from the field, almost 40% from 3-point range, and 85% from the charity stripe. Quite simply, Trimble makes others better. I don't expect him to play his usual 31.3 minutes per ball game as this game shouldn't be competitive and the starters should be taking an early seat to rest up for inter-conference play.

Support System
Despite their lack of rebounding, the Terrapins feature three premiere rebounders and good support for Trimble in Robert Carter (12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds), Jake Layman (11.3 points, 5.5 rebounds) and prized freshman, Diamond Stone (10.7 points, 4.6). Along with Duke transfer, Rasheed Sulaimon, all of these players are effiicient shooters and that makes them a dangerous basketball team. As I've stated many times before, I can't wait for Sulaimon to match up against the coach that kicked him off the squad due to detrimental behavior as this has never been done by Coach K before. It's a must watch and a must NCAA Basketball pick for the bettors out there.

"We Are Marshall"
Obviously, nobody can forget that, but this is an unwinnable game for the Thundering Herd, who have won 4 out of their last 6 games after an 0-6 start. Marshall has faced a top 25 team before in their arch enemy, the West Virginia Mountaineers and came up short, 86-68. This is a team that plays right into Maryland's wheel house as their defense is very weak.

Marshall will be looking towards their 3 top players in James Kelly (17.8 points, 9.3 rebounds), Ryan Taylor, (14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds), and Stevie Browning (11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists) to shoulder the load, and although their numbers look good, just what I said about Princeton pertains to this game. Maryland is on a different level than Marshall. Make the Terrapins your pick in tonight's matchup.
