The NCAA Basketball regular season is winding down, but we are still eager to make a profit & have pinpointed games that look quite appealing against the spread. Let's take a look at these games for further analysis.
A Steal of a Deal
This game from tonight's NCAA basketball shortened schedule is fairly clear cut. The Huskers have dropped 7 consecutive games while the Terrapins are have their minds set on the post-season, having win 6 consecutive games. Nebraska has no chance of making the NCAA Tournament unless they win the Big-Ten Tournament. Although this game is basically meaningless, Maryland is only giving 2.5 points and the last thing that the Terps want on their resume is an "L" to Nebraska. This isn't going to happen. This is a major opportunity to cash in if the bettor sides with the Terrapins as the spread is "super-low".
During their 6 game winning streak, the Terps have beaten teams such as the Wisconsin Badgers which possess Wooden Award Nominee, Frank Kaminsky. This team is far superior to that of Nebraska and the only way that Nerbraska has any chance of making this game competitive is if Maryland were to sit their starters.Quite frankly, I'm shocked by the point spread in this game.
The Terps are coming off of a 60-50 win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Rutgers simply isn't equipped to be part of the Big-Ten Conference and they've been every team's whipping dummy all season long.
In this game, Dez Wells was fantastic on both ends of the court as he led Maryland with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. This is a guy that has proven that he can go up against the best teams in the nation and be successful. In the win over Wisconsin, Wells had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. I see Wells and leading scorer, Melo Trimble (16 ppg.) having their way against a Nebraska team which is less talented
The only thing that I can say in favor of Nebraska is that they made a game of it the last time that these two teams met (February 19th) as they lost 69-65 to Maryland on the road. Just the same, a loss is a loss.
Junior forward, Terran Petteway, has been productive, but not efficient shooting-wise. He's averaging 17.8 points per game, but in his last 5 games, has shot just 21 of 68 from the field. As stated before, Nebraska has no chance in this game and getting 2.5 points is a joke.
NCAA Basketball Pick: Maryland -2.5 at Bovada
IUPUI (10-20, 6-10) vs. Oral Roberts (17-13, 10-6): Summit League Tournament Quarterfinals
Again, we have another mismatch with a rather low point spread to consider for our NCAA basketball picks today. The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles are just a 4.5 point betting favorite in an elimination situation in which they're far superior to that of their opponent.
Both teams know that a loss here and they go home. Oral Roberts isn't a world-beater, but they got bigger fish to fry in North Dakota State and South Dakota State and they recently defeated North Dakota State, 74-68, therefore an NCAA Tournament bid is obtainable. They must not look past the inferior IUPUI Jaguars.
IUPUI has lost 7 out of their last 9 games and are coming off of a tough double overtime loss to Omaha, 87-80. The Jaguars and the Golden Eagles have already met this season and Oral Roberts came out on top, 78-68. The one major advantage that Oral Roberts has in this game is a go to option. IUPUI doesn't contain one player on their roster that averages double digit points.
Oral Roberts possesses guard Obi Emegano. For the season, Emegano is averaging a team leading 18.1 points and 4.7 rebounds. Emegano is a player that plays good defense and can shoot from beyond the perimeter. At 6 foot 3, he's somewhat of a wide body and is also effective on the boards. In his last 2 games, he's been on fire, averaging 29.5 points on 20 of 31 shooting from the field. Don't expect IUPUI to be able to stop Emegano as he and his team look to advance to the next round and keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
