It’s NFL Sunday, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t make a decent profit with our NCAA Basketball Picks. Here are a couple of solid matchups that should put you on the plus-side on this busy Sunday.

Seton Hall (5-3) vs. Rutgers (4-5)

Big Brother vs. Little Brother

Although the Seton Hall Pirates are nowhere near the category of a powerhouse, you kind of get the more established program vs. the lesser accomplished program in this matchup and that’s not even mentioning the coaching issues that Rutgers has had in the past. Along with that, the Scarlett Knights have played very poorly as of late, losing 4 out of their last 5 games. Seton Hall appears to be a bargain as a 2 point betting underdog in the college basketball odds for this game.

Although they’re better ball club, the Pirates have been unable to establish a level of consistency over their last 6 games without a consecutive winning or losing streak. Seton Hall won their last game in a 92-81 victory over LIU-Brooklyn and if you look at the pattern of their most recent games, they’re due for a loss. Should we follow the trend of the Pirates past performances?

Brian Oliver, 3 Point Specialist

Coming off the bench, Oliver has been a reliable go to guy when the Pirates have needed a 3-ball this season. All 25 of his field goals this season have come from beyond the arc. Oliver is also coming off of a huge 26 point performance to lead Seton Hall over LIU-Brooklyn in which he connected on 8 of 17 shots from 3-point range. This is a senior who’s not hesitant to shoot. Look for Oliver to carry the momentum over to this game and provide a spark for the Pirates.

Another player that’s not bashful when it comes to shooting is leading Pirates leading scorer, Sterling Gibbs. Gibbs is a player that can do many things well on the court, especially playing defense. On the flips side, he’s shooting Just 33.9 % from the field. Gibbs is 4 for his last 30 from the field. Seton Hall needs Gibbs’ production to be at their best, but the transfer will need to be less selfish if his shot isn’t falling.

Jack and Mack

From a Scarlett Knights perspective, the combination of Kadeem Jack (15.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and Myles Mack (15 ppg.) will be the catalysts to break Rutgers out of their latest slump. This is a winnable game if their top two players play up to their potential.

Rutgers has had a tough time just dealing with Ivy League schools such as Yale. Seton Hall is getting points and is a level above the home team here.

Boston College (3-5) at USC (5-3)

A Near Even Matchup?

I’m a bit surprised to see the Trojans as just a 1 point betting favorite in this matchup as B.C. has to travel cross-country and have appeared to be the inferior team thus far. Boston College beat Washington and gave Connecticut a run for their money, but are a losing squad which is coming off of a 11 point loss to Purdue on Wednesday.

USC on the other hand, has also played some formidable competition with a win over Xavier attached to their resume; the Trojans should be a much larger favorite and this is definitely a pick to capitalize on; no trap here.

It was only the 7th place game in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, but USC came from behind in this game to go on a 31-11 run midway through the 1st half which enabled them to hold on in this “consolation game.” This was not one of USC’s best performances, but a win is a win and there’s a drop-off in competition in tonight’s game against B.C.

The Trojans will look for Byron Wesley (17 ppg. ,8 rpg.) to shake off some “shaky” performances lately. Wesley has shot under 50% in each of his last 4 games and hasn’t been the force that he’s capable of being.

Boston College will rely upon Olivier Hanlan and Ryan Anderson ,who account for 50 % of the Eagles 78 points per game this season. Anderson has been the hot player as of late ,averaging 21 points and 7.7 rebounds per game covering his last 4 contests. Anderson has shot well and made frequent trips to the line.

This game should be fairly close, but bettors need to stick with USC at home, giving up just a point against a sub-par Boston College team that has to travel cross country. Take USC over Boston College for your free college basketball pick.
