After an easy 2-0 day and riding the chalk to start off the week, it’s onto Tuesday’s NCAA Basketball Picks of the Day where the matchups are slightly more competitive.
East Carolina (4-0) at Duke (3-1)
Tailing Duke at Cameron?
If something is working then you stick with it and Duke has currently won 104 consecutive games against non-conference opponents in their own building. Duke is yet again a heavy favorite for NCAA basketball picks.
Duke is coming off of an easy 91-55 victory over UNC Asheville. Jabari Parker was on the court for only 19 minutes, but managed to contribute with 21 points and 10 rebounds. He’s the only player under Mike Krzyzewski’s tenure at Duke to open up his career with 3 straight 20 point games and this trend is likely to continue as he’s a level above just about anyone in college basketball.
Transfer, Rodney Hood continues to be a huge acquisition offensively. Hood finished the game with 18 points on 3 of 4 shooting from beyond the arc. Hood is the real deal and look for him to be productive throughout the season.
Coach Krzyzewski noted that he was impressed with Jabari Parker’s desire to get others involved, which led to some turnovers, but he’d actually rather Jabari take matters into his own hands and shoot more often. That’s high praise and confidence shown from one of the two best college coaches in NCAA history.
The only negative that can be said from Duke’s last game is that Jefferson and Sulaimon didn’t really get an opportunity to do anything offensively, but they’ll have more of a chance to do so as East Carolina will be a tougher test.
The East Carolina Pirates just narrowly avoided their 1st loss of the season in a 76-74 victory over Norfolk State. The Pirates were an impressive 10 for 25 from beyond the arc and were led by the 3-head monster of Paris Roberts-Campbell, Akeem Richmond, Michael Zangari. This trio accounted for 54 out of the 64 points from the Pirates starters.
Duke will need to focus on the guards as they’re experienced and can light up the scoreboard. The Pirates are getting used to Cameron Indoor Stadium, but do they have enough in the tank to compete with Parker, Hood, and company?
I’m going to keep tailing Duke. I know that the NCAA basketball odds are high, but this is a well coached and very talented team that can’t be stopped at home.

Rhode Island (3-1) at #5 Arizona (4-0)
Although I’m sticking with the teams such as Duke and Arizona that have been super-impressive early in the season, Rhode Island might not have a chance in this game, but is far from a pushover. They’re coached by Dan Hurley who’s been known to turn around schools and turn them into winners. First, Hurley turned a disgusting Wagner College team into an almost unbeatable team and it seems that in his 2nd season, he’s following suit with Rhode Island as they only have one loss attached to their resume.
In their last game, Arizona demolished and outclassed Farleigh Dickinson team, 100-50. Freshman Aaron Gordon had a sub-par showing, but the rest of the team more than made up for it. Freshman, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, shot well and was active off the bench with 13 points and 7 rebounds in just 18 minutes of play; this kid has a big future. In all, Arizona outrebounded their opponenet 55-24 and with players like Gabe York (20 points) was just too talented and deep a team for Farleigh Dickinson to deal with.
Rhode Island is a team with depth, led by freshman E.C. Matthews (14.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg., and 3 apg.) and solid rebounding. Although I’m a huge believer in coach Hurley going back to his days coaching in high school, the Rams aren’t ready to deal with a team as good as Arizona. The Rams have had success this season, but the opponents have been weak and they’re in for a rude awakening tonight. The success of Arizona will be too great for the Rams swaying sportsbooks to choose Arizona as their picks.
