The mismatches continue as AP Top 25 teams continue to stockpile up on wins before the real schedule begins in NCAA College Basketball.

It’s a matter of “win versus covers”. Let’s see what the odds makers have in store for us on Sunday.

Vermont (1-4) at #6 Duke (4-1)

Parker and Hood Show

Freshman sensation Jabari Parker and underrated transfer Rodney Hood look to extend Duke’s streak of victories against non-conference opponents in Cameron Indoor Stadium to an eye-popping 106 games tonight. The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents in this streak by a margin of 26.9 points .

Visiting the Dukies will be an outclassed group of players in the Vermont Catamounts. Vermont comes into this game after a 68-61 loss to Wagner and are a mere 24.5 points underdogs to the Blue Devils. Will Duke blow this second-rate team out of the building as expected?

Rodney’s New “Hood”

He might be the second best player on the Duke Basketball team, but Rodney Hood has made his mark in Durham, North Carolina and impressed many. While Jabari Parker is the player with highest upside and talent on the Duke squad, Hood is the biggest producer currently. He’s averaging 21.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game on a mind-blowing 72.3 % from the field. Hood is also coming off of a huge performance against East Carolina with 30 points and 5 rebounds.

This is a player that can force fouls on the opposition and has a soft touch. With Rodney Hood and Jabari Parker as Duke’s 1-2 punch, this team is tough to beat for a top 25 team in the country never mind a Vermont team that doesn’t belong in the same class with them. With Quinn Cook at the point guard position (7 assists per game), this team is unstoppable.

Vermont is coming off of disappointing loss in which they got off to a slow start. In all, the Catamounts were 0-12 from 3-point range in this game. This kind of shooting simply won’t cut it against a fundamentally sound Duke team. Vermont is led by senior forward Clancy Rugg. Rugg averages 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest. He’s a solid small school player, but his team is in way over their heads against Duke.

Chattanooga (2-3) at #22 UCLA (4-0)

Mocking the Mocs?

As a 23 point favorite, UCLA seems like the consensus bet as the Bruins have a solid defensive core and plenty of firepower ,but should we be overlooking a Chattanooga team that ranks 14th in the nation at 91 points per game on nearly 50% shooting from the field?

It’s the same old song of a team that hasn’t played a team that’s a top 25 club such as UCLA or even a team close to cracking the top 25. Chattanooga has had some huge scoring outputs against teams like Radford and Nevada and still have lost. Now, they must face the unstoppable super sophomore in Jordan Adams in which UCLA’s previous 4 opponents haven’t had an answer for.

Sam Houston State will face Texas A&M~

Super Sophomore

Guard ,Jordan Adams, is responsible for more than ¼ of UCLA’s total points per game at 22.3 points per contest. He’s a fantastic shooter at nearly 50 % from 3-point range and 88% from the free throw line and sticks to his opponents like glue defensively. Adams is averaging 3.5 steals per game. He’s also coming off of his biggest scoring output of the season, a 30 point and 7 rebound performance in an 11 point over Morehead State. Someone should call the Lakers; this kid is better than Steve Nash right now.

Look for Adams to dominate a Bruins offense which contains 7 players that score 9.8 points per game or more. Another player to keep an eye on is guard Kyle Anderson. Anderson is coming off of a triple-double against Morehead State. Adams looks for the offense, but this backcourt is loaded.

Chattanooga has lost 22 consecutive games against ranked opponents. They’re also coming off of a rough 83-81 loss in which Deonte Burton sunk the Mocs heart as he sunk a 3 pointer at the buzzer in regulation to give Nevada a huge win and put Chattanooga on the south side of the .500 mark.

The Mocs 2nd leading scorer, Z. Mason, is coming off of a 24 point, 8 rebound performance and  Chattanooga might  surprise bettors in this game.

Chattanooga has plenty of offense to run with the Bruins. Look for a UCLA win but expect a Chattanooga cover as the Mocs are the recipients of 23 points for our NCAAB Picks.
