Which two teams should we put our faith in with our college basketball picks for Tuesday? Come check out our top plays of the day.
Texas Longhorns vs. Stanford Cardinal
We know the Longhorns have been excellent so far this season, but it is somewhat surprising to see them favored by such a large number against a solid Stanford team. Right now, Texas is favored by either 10 or 10.5 on our NCAA basketball odds. A total had yet to be released to the public.
The Longhorns have raced out to a 10-1 start, and their only loss came at the hands of the best team in the country in Kentucky. Their best win of the season so far came on the road against Connecticut. The team's being led by Jonathan Holmes and Myles Turner in terms of scoring, but Texas' depth is what's really kept them afloat, especially with Isaiah Thomas out of action.
Tonight's opponent will be the Cardinal, who are 6-3 on the year. Their three losses were against Duke, DePaul and BYU, with their best win in this young season coming in blowout fashion (89-60) over UNLV back in November. Chasson Randle, Stefan Nastic and Anthony Brown have been playing a ton of minutes and performing well, while Reid Travis has been a good presence too.
A lot of the Longhorns' success has come down to their superior rebounding ability - they rank third in the country on the glass - but Stanford has three different guys averaging at least 6.6 boards per game, so this seems to be a good matchup for the road team. We imagine Texas will be able to get the straight up win, but this is too many points to be laying in our estimation, so we'll add Stanford at this appetizing number and look for them to keep it close.

Utah Utes vs. South Dakota State Jackrabbits
It's not like South Dakota State has struggled immensely this season. The opposite is actually true, as the Jackrabbits are 9-3 on the season and have won seven straight games heading into tonight's game with Utah. However, the Utes are one of the most potent teams in the country, and as a result they've been priced out as huge 18.5-point favorites in this spot.
Utah was able to rebound after a hard-fought loss to Kansas by beating UNLV 59-46 on a neutral court a few days ago. The Utes are sitting at 8-2 on the year (with losses to the Jayhawks and San Diego State), and they've already picked up a statement win in overtime against Wichita State. Delon Wright has not only been Utah's best player this season, but he's been one of the most productive players in all of college basketball. He's joined by Jordan Loveridge, Brandon Taylor and Jakob Poelti as the Utes' top options.
It's going to be a tall task for South Dakota State to keep up this evening. The Jackrabbits are on a good roll right now as we mentioned, but do they have the firepower to keep up? They've got four different players averaging in double figures, and were recently boosted by the return of George Marshall.
But, despite their play of late, we have to take the level of competition into consideration. South Dakota State has been playing a pretty cupcake schedule of late, so they're most likely about to face a harsh reality check in Utah tonight. You never feel entirely comfortable laying this kind of number, but the Utes have proven that they can run away from teams in a hurry, and we expect that to happen in this situation. Back the Utes for your NCAA basketball pick to cover the number at home.
