The Temple Owls will try to shake up America's brackets a little more on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio, but the ninth seed will need to play an essentially perfect game.

College Basketball Tournament Betting – Temple vs. Indiana Picks

Temple can win because…

Hitting their three-point shots is what made the first win in the NCAA tournament possible and people making their NCAA basketball picks know that if the Owls have any hope of coming away with a win in this matchup, they are going to have to hit them with even more consistency and get a couple of other players besides Jake O'Brien and Khalif Wyatt to hit a few in this game. Another important factor is going to be if this team can find a way to contain the Hoosiers' premier big man in the low post, Cody Zeller. In their first game of the tournament against North Carolina State, the Owls loaded their forwards with minutes: Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson played all 40 minutes and Scootie Randall played 38 minutes of the game. Using them like this against Indiana will not cut it as far as defense is concerned. Yet, resting these players could be costly as well, so somebody else from this roster is going to have to step into the game to make some defensive plays - maybe Anthony Lee, the only other inside guy to play against N.C. State, could answer the call. If he can, the Owls can gain a lot of leverage in this tussle.

This team is going to have to come up with something special to take out Indiana but Wyatt is an elite scorer who is capable of taking a team on his back in a high-profile moment such as this one. If Temple can also contain Indiana's best three-point shooter, Jordan Hulls, it will force other Hoosiers to make perimeter shots, and that's a reasonable formula for victory on Sunday.

Indiana can win because…

This number-one-ranked team is one of the NCAA basketball odds on favorites to go all the way to the Final Four and win the whole tournament this year. In this game the big key will be the matchup in the paint. The fact is that the Temple Owls' big men are going to be too small to play against the Hoosiers' Cody Zeller, who for the most part should be able to shoot over his opponents in this game while also using deft low-post moves to maneuver around them if necessary. The other important factor is going to be if Indiana can lock down the outside shooting of the Owls and prevent them for going on a scoring run to either get ahead or come back. Temple has to throw down a lot of threes so that the game can remain close, giving the No. 9 seed a chance to win as the game clock winds down.

A third item of note is going to be if the Hoosiers can hit their own shots, because that is what got them knocked out of the Big Ten Tournament on March 16 against Wisconsin. Indiana would hit ruts in the midst of the grind of Big Ten competition, but the early loss in the Big Ten Tournament counterintuitively helped this team by giving it an extended break. Fatigue on jump shots should not be a problem for this team this early in the NCAA tournament.

Outlook & Prediction:

The Indiana Hoosiers are one of the great teams in college basketball this year and are looking to fulfill their championship expectations. They have more than enough talent to do so, especially against teams that have limited bench performers such as the Temple Owls. Take Indiana with your sports picks as they will wear down Temple and pull away in the final 10 minutes.
