The Syracuse Orange find themselves in a bit of a trap game Monday night, as they travel to take on the Boston College Eagles.

Let’s take a closer look at the college basketball odds for this Atlantic Coast Conference affair, with the opening tip scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Syracuse is one of just four teams nationally to enter the week with an unblemished record, as it comes off an impressive 57-45 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels as 8.5-point home favorites last Saturday.

The Orange have really picked up their intensity defensively, as they’ve allowed their last four opponents to average 47.3 points and 37.1 percent shooting.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 4-0 SU and 2-2 ATS as road favorites of 9.5 to 12 points.

Hard to come by

Boston College will attempt to win back-to-back games for just the second time during the 2013-14 campaign, as it picked up a 62-59 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies as a pick’ em last Saturday.

College basketball handicappers should shy away from placing a money line wager on the road underdogs, considering the Eagles have dropped 17 of their last 18 affairs versus ranked opponents.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 1-3 SU and 3-1 ATS as home underdogs of 9.5 to 12 points.

Plenty of options

The Orange have four players averaging in double figures, with senior forward C.J. Fair leading the way in scoring 17.4 points a contest.

Syracuse also has one of the best floor generals in the country in freshman point guard Tyler Ennis, who ranks second in the country with a 4.53 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Get to the line

The Eagles are capable of staying within this number if they can get to the charity stripe, as they sit behind only two teams in terms of free throw percentage.

Boston College has faced a challenging schedule heading into this affair, as its previous 16 opponents have put together a combined 151-84 record.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Eagles for their free college basketball picks, as the Orange may get caught looking ahead to their next game against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Boston College improves to 6-1 ATS at home versus teams with a winning road record.
