Sunday Hoops Betting: Doubleheader
While the No. 17 Creighton Bluejays visit the Southern Illinois Salukis.
Miami is 4-2-1 ATS in its last seven meetings with FSU, while Creighton has a 5-0 spread mark in its last five battles against the Salukis. Will the ranked ‘chalk’ cover as large faves here, or are the big dogs worth backing?
Florida State Seminoles at Miami Hurricanes
Miami cruised in its sixth straight win, cashing as a 2 ½-point home dog in Wednesday’s 90-63 triumph over the Duke Blue Devils. The Hurricanes shot 56.9 percent from their floor, including a 9-for-11 night from forward Kenny Kadji en route to 22 points.
Florida State ended a two-game losing streak with Thursday’s 60-57 victory against the Clemson Tigers, while failing to collect as five-point home ‘chalk.’ Seminoles center Kiel Turpin logged team-highs of 16 points and four blocks, with he and his mates rallying from a 29-21 halftime deficit.
Bookmaker.eu opened Miami as a 10 ½-point favorite, with early FSU wagers driving the number south a ‘hook’ to 10. The Hurricanes find themselves as double-digit favorites for the first time here, while Florida State is 5-1 ATS in its last six spots as a dog away from home.
I am backing Florida State here, looking for the Seminoles to come up with another road cover. The Hurricanes could have a letdown here after their sizable win over Duke, while facing an FSU squad leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in free throws (71.5 percent) and ranked fourth in three-point buckets (37.5 percent).
Look for the Seminoles to come up with enough equalizers to stay within cashing range, adding another winning ticket to their 7-3 spread record in their last 10 battles with ACC foes.
NCAAB Picks: Florida State Seminoles +10 (Bookmaker.eu)
Creighton Bluejays at Southern Illinois Salukis
Creighton picked up a second straight loss in Wednesday’s 74-69 setback as a nine-point basketball odds favorites on the road, to the Drake Bulldogs. Bluejays mates Doug McDermott and Grant Gibbs notched team-highs of 21 points and eight assists, respectively, while Creighton fell behind early by a 44-28 halftime margin.
The same night of action saw Southern Illinois log its eighth defeat in nine games, coming away with a 58-45 loss as a 10 ½-point road dog against the Northern Iowa Panthers. Salukis forward Dantiel Daniels was the sole member of his squad to reach double figures, hitting 5-of-7 floor shots as part of 11 points.
5Dimes.eu first listed Creighton as 11-point road ‘chalk,’ remaining unchanged in mixed early wagers. The Bluejays have dipped to 66.5 PPG in their last pair of contests, while Southern Illinois has cashed with a 2-1 spread record in its three spots as a double-digit dog.
I am taking the points with the Salukis here, feeling Daniels and Co. should bring enough to the table here. Daniels is presently the Missouri Valley Conference’s top shooter (66.7 percent), while Southern Illinois’ Desmar Jackson ranks fourth for scoring (16.3 PPG) and steals (2 SPG).
Look for Southern Illinois to keep enough pace for a ‘back-door’ cover here, while Creighton continues its road skid with a third straight losing NCAAB betting ticket.
NCAAB Picks: Southern Illinois Salukis +11 (5Dimes.eu)
