Our NCAA basketball capper previews Sunday’s South Alabama vs. NC State game . Join us in reading this betting preview that culminates with his point spread pick.

Sun Belt versus ACC in Raleigh on Sunday
The North Carolina State Wolfpack and South Alabama Jaguars meet on Sunday in a non-conference game. The opening tip at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina is slated for 6:00 PM ET. Current NCAA Basketball Odds at 5Dimes has NC State as a 15.5 point favorite, and the posted total is 152.5.

Both Teams like fast Pace
Both of these teams prefer an up tempo style if their opening games are any indication. South Alabama had 72 field goal attempts in their season opener on Friday while NC State took 71 of their own. The total in this game opened at 150.5 and swiftly moved up to as much as 153.0 at It must be noted, since 1997, college basketball games with a total of 150.0 to 159.5 during the month of November, resulted in going under 58.1% of the time. In addition, despite the high volume of attempts both teams took on Friday, South Alabama shot just 43.1%, and NC State converted on a poor 38.0% of their tries.

Season Openers for Jaguars and Wolfpack
The good news for South Alabama is that they opened the year with a convincing 88-68 win. The reality is they were facing Auburn Montgomery who’s not a Division 1 team.

NC State is coming off a stunning 85-68 home loss as a 12.5 point favorite against William & Mary in their opening game on Friday. In their defense, William & Mary is a very experienced team coming off a stellar 2014-2015 campaign. However, there’s no excuse for the Wolfpack’s poor defensive play in that loss, allowing their opponent to shoot a a red-hot 51.7% from the field.

Final Thoughts and Pick
NC State not only was blown out on Friday as a double digit favorite, they also lost talented transfer guard Terry Henderson early in that game due to an ankle injury. The early prognosis is that Henderson will be sidelined for 6 to 8 weeks. The other factor to consider is that NC State head coach Marc Gottfried hasn’t been real successful during his career in covering as a double digit favorite. His teams have rarely come out sharp on those occasions, and Friday was a perfect example of just that. Granted that the level of competition both teams faced in their opening games were on opposite sides of the spectrum. Even so, I like the underdog value in this game for one of my NCAA Basketball Picks on Sunday.
