The Seton Hall Pirates have struggled against ranked opponents since last year, as they prepare to take on the Villanova Wildcats Friday night. Let’s take a closer look at the college basketball odds for this Big East Conference matchup at The Pavilion, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

Fallen into a pattern

Seton Hall has alternated wins and losses over its last six contests, as it comes off a 68-60 victory over the Xavier Musketeers as eight-point road underdogs last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total of 144.

The Pirates may continue their current pattern, considering they’ve dropped all 10 games versus ranked opponents since the calendar turned to 2013.

It’s important to point out that the program is 4-5 SU and 7-2 ATS as underdogs in the NCAA basketball odds this season.

Nice bounce back

Villanova is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS since a blowout loss to Creighton on Jan. 20, as it comes off a 81-58 victory over Xavier as nine-point home favorites Monday, while going UNDER the betting total of 147.5.

The Wildcats have been led by guard/forward James Bell, who is averaging 21.3 points over his last six games

College basketball handicappers will find that the team is 8-8 SU and 6-9 ATS in February the last two-plus seasons.

Full roster

The Pirates have a good opportunity to improve upon their 9-4 ATS mark when revenging a home loss since the 2011-12 campaign, as they were missing starters Fuquan Edwin and Eugene Teague in a 83-67 loss to the Wildcats earlier this season.

Seton Hall has covered the number in five of the last seven meetings in this series, while the OVER is on a 7-3 run at sportsbooks.

A key number

The Wildcats will be focused on trying to reach the 70-point plateau offensively, as they’ve won all 16 games this season when accomplishing that feat.

Villanova has won 11 of the last 12 overall meetings in this series, while also capturing 11 consecutive home games—the last loss coming in 1994.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Pirates as one of their NCAA basketball picks, as they’ve gone 16-5 ATS in their last 21 road games.

Pick: Seton Hall Pirates +12.5
