NCAA Basketball Picks of the Day
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Cowboys will be out for blood this afternoon, one of the reasons we are picking them to cover the relatively large number.
As of now Oklahoma State is favored by 8.5 points for this visit of Oklahoma, though you can also lock down 9 if you like a play on the Sooners instead. The total is at 135, with the OVER going 6-1 in the last seven head-to-head meetings.
Last month Oklahoma scored a 77-68 win over the Cowboys and in turn covered as two-point favorites. As you can see, sportsbooks believe Oklahoma State has an excellent chance of returning the favor in style.
We do too. There's little chance Marcus Smart and Markel Brown will shoot a combined 7-of-22 from the field like they did in the first encounter. Smart tends to bring out his best when it matters most – he dropped 25 points and nine boards at Kansas and flirted with triple-doubles in both meetings with Baylor as well. This guy loves the spotlight.
Smart, Brown, Le'Bryan Nash and Phil Forte are all capable of taking over a game offensively, whereas Oklahoma mainly relies on Romero Osby and Steven Pledger.
At home this season the Cowboys have averaged 73.2 PPG and given up just 56.2 PPG, while the Sooners are scoring at a 65.4 PPG clip and allowing 68.6 PPG on the road.
We are picking Oklahoma State to cover against an Oklahoma team that's gone 1-3 SU and ATS over their previous four road matchups. The crowd will be going nuts in this rivalry game and we think that will spur Smart and company on here.
NCAAB Picks: Oklahoma State Cowboys -8.5
Baylor Bears vs. Kansas State Wildcats
A tough game in Manhattan awaits Baylor this evening, with oddsmakers installing the Bears as five-point underdogs on the NCAA basketball odds board. The total has been set at 131.5.
Kansas State has got the job done at home, going 11-1 SU and going 3-1 SU and ATS over their last four. The only defeat came against arch-rival Kansas back on January 22.
Tonight, however, we think the Bears have an excellent shot at covering the five and perhaps even snatching away a straight up victory.
Baylor has been tested in a big way on the road already. They've faced off against the likes of Kansas, Gonzaga, Kentucky and Oklahoma State and haven't done too shabby, beating the Wildcats and staying close with the Zags and Cowboys. On the season Baylor has gone 6-4 ATS.
This Bears team has one of the more talented starting fives you'll find anywhere in the Big 12. Pierre Jackson, A.J. Walton and Brady Heslip bring the experience on the perimeter and Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson are two extremely promising young bigs.
Those two lead Baylor on the glass, where they've been very successful. They're in the top 25 in rebounding and have averaged 36.4 RPG over their last five, considerably better than Kansas State and their 28.6 RPG in the same span. In a crazy environment inside Fred Bramlage Coliseum, being strong inside is going to come in handy.
The Bears have come through for us a couple times already this season, and we think they're undervalued for this road contest. We're recommending a play on Baylor for one of our sports picks.
