A quick glance over the college basketball odds shows the Tigers are actually 1.5-point underdogs at Bookmaker and Pinnacle. There's obviously still time for line movement, so keep checking SBRodds as we approach tipoff so you can get the best possible value.
Yet again the Tigers won the Conference USA title, though it didn't come easy in the championship game. They needed double overtime to overcome Southern Miss in a wildly entertaining 91-79 victory.
The Tigers have now won six straight heading into the first round and will try to carry over that momentum against the Gaels.
Memphis has been executing flawlessly on the offensive end as of late. They've averaged 79.8 PPG on 47.7 percent shooting overall and 43.6 percent from three over their last five games.
That said, defensively they've struggled, allowing 69.2 PPG over their previous five, marginally worse than their season average of 65.1 PPG. The Tigers, though, live and die on the offensive end, where they have seven players who've averaged at least 7.5 points per game this season. Joe Jackson (13.6 PPG on 52.7 percent shooting) is the one to watch though.
Josh Pastner has gotten quite a bit of flack for not getting his teams to perform come tournament time. Is this the year the Tigers make some noise in March?
St. Mary's Gaels
The Gaels controlled the tempo throughout their 67-54 play-in game victory over Middle Tennessee State.
Dellavedova got hot and St. Mary's never looked back. He finished with 22 points (7-of-14 FG, 5-of-7 from three) to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Stephen Holt contributed 18 points and Beau Levesque had 13 off the bench.
It was just the kind of performance the Gaels needed, as they should feel confident in their abilities on both ends of the floor against a deep Memphis squad.
Much like the Tigers, St. Mary's was a very efficient offensive team throughout the year, averaging 74.6 PPG while allowing 63.0 PPG. Notable wins included those against Creighton, Harvard, and BYU (twice).
Gonzaga was pretty much the only team the Gaels had trouble with this season, as they lost three seperate times to the number one seed, including in the conference finals.

College Basketball Pick
Dellevadova is a player, but the Tigers have far more balanced when it comes to scoring and that is why we like them to win and cover.
MTSU couldn't get going offensively in the play-in game, however we don't see that being much of a problem for a Memphis team that averaged 75.9 PPG this season
With our sports picks, let's go ahead and back the Tigers to come through. This is a very talented and deep team and we see them sending St. Mary's and their one-man army home.
Pick: Memphis Tigers +1.5
