Oddsmakers set these two less than 4 points apart. Will Seton Hall get the money again here or can Rutgers pull off an upset in Newark?

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights edged out the Seton Hall Pirates in last month’s 57-55 victory, while falling shy of collecting as four-point home ‘chalk.’  Friday’s college basketball betting has the Big East Conference foes meeting again, with both notching 2-1 ATS marks in their last three contests.

Pirates, Edwin downed at Providence

Seton Hall picked up its 10th loss in 11 games with Tuesday’s 76-66 defeat as an eight-point road dog against the Providence Friars. The Pirates connected from three-point land at an 8-for-18 clip, while outrebounded, 37-29.

Pirates guard Fuquan Edwin notched team-highs of 15 points and six boards, while adding three of his side’s four blocks. Seton Hall’s Gene Teague and Aaron Crosby united for 26 points and six assists, while the Pirates hit 10-of-14 free throws.

The contest’s combined 142 points jumped above the ‘total’ of 133, moving the OVER to 4-1 in Seton Hall’s last five games. Pirates senior Kyle Smyth finished with 11 points, reaching double figures for a second straight game, while he and his mates held Providence to a 40.9 percent night from the floor.

Knights, Mack blow lead at home

Tuesday’s action also saw Rutgers’ losing slide continue with a 60-54 loss against the Marquette Golden Eagles. The Scarlet Knights saw a 31-21 halftime lead erased, while holding on to cash by a ‘hook’ as a 6 ½-point home dog.

Knights guard Myles Mack led his squad’s scoring with 11 points, while uniting with mate Jerome Seagears for four assists each. Rutgers’ Mike Pool grabbed a team-high six boards, while forward Derrick Randall registered three blocks in 16 minutes of action.

The battle’s combined 114 points dipped beneath the ‘total’ of 133 ½, making the UNDER 9-3 in the Scarlet Knights’ last 12 duels. Rutgers drained 4-of-9 shots beyond the arc as part of a 46 percent mark of field shooting, while edging Marquette in rebounds, 26-24.

I am taking the points here with Rutgers, looking for another close affair between these two foes. The Scarlet Knights will feel a drop in class here compared to recent duels with Georgetown and Marquette, while the underdog has cashed at 15-3 ATS in the last 18 meetings between these New Jersey rivals.

Seton Hall has not enjoyed an advantage on its floor, with a 1-4 spread record in its last five home dates. The Pirates have put up a sparse 60.6 PPG in that span, including a dismal night of 29.4 percent field shooting against Marquette last month.

Rutgers is 5-2 ATS in its last seven spots away from home and makes a shorter trip here than those challenges. The Knights found rims from the floor at 52.7 percent as part of last February’s 77-72 overtime triumph in Newark, including a 3-for-3 night beyond the arc from Jerome Seagears.

Look for Rutgers to get the money again here, extending its 8-0 spread record in the team’s last eight clashes away from home with Seton Hall.
