NCAA Basketball Pick: Old Dominion +5
Best Line Offered: at Bookmaker

NCAA basketball odds have Old Dominion as a +5 underdog across the board Just looking at the records and previous matchups it would seem that the Spiders should be a bit more of a favorite as the line came out at -4.5.  For my selection I will back the underrated Monarchs in this spot to take this game to wire and possibly pull off the upset.

Old Dominion Monarchs
ODU is averaging 65.2 points per game while shooting 41.8% from the field, and allowing 57.8 points per game on 37.3% shooting from the field. This is a team with some returning talent that are supposed to contend in Conference USA led by arguably the best play in the league Trey Freeman. So far on the year though they have not met those expectations coming out of the gates poorly which was surprising considering they started the year last year so hot. They don't push tempo and are not a particularly good three point shooting team, but they are decent around the paint and getting to the bucket averaging 47.8% on their two point shots, decent not great. What I do like about this team though is that they get after it defensively which should prove to be the difference for them in covering this small number. Although this has some to do with the pace they try to implement it is hard to deny some these really solid statistics. The Monarchs allow just 19.7 field goals made per game which ranks fifth in the country, 4.4 three points made per game which also ranks fifth, and sticking with that trend they allow just 8.8 assists per game which again, ranks 5th.

Richmond Spiders
Richmond is averaging 81.2 points per game while shooting 48.2% from the field, and allowing 75.2 points per game on 46.7% shooting. The Spiders have had some impressive wins on the season and are a veteran team that should have some success in the Atlantic 10. Chris Mooney is a very good college coach and Richmond always seems to be a team that is a bit underestimated every year, but this is a solid basketball program. They are excellent and keeping turnovers to a minimum and offensively they have not lost a beat with an average of 55.6% in effective field goals. As well offensively, they share the ball averaging 17.3 assists per game, and are solid in the paint averaging 54% on their two point shooting. They are quite different than ODU in especially pace and defense.  On the defensive end they rank in the bottom part of the country in shooting percentage from the field and beyond the arc. They also have not been very good defending opponents in overall field goal efficiency and effective field goals. Tonight I think specifically defensive will be the difference and why I like ODU to hang in this game and take it to the wire.

This is good line play with a team that lacks a bit on the defensive end versus a team that is better than it has played so far this season.  For one of your NCAA basketball picks I recommend backing the Monarchs to outplay Richmond defensively and take this game to the wire, grab the points.
