Will the Hoosiers stay hot as big ‘chalk’ or can the Boilermakers end their slide with a ‘back door’ cover? Which side do we lean to for our NCAAB Picks on this one?

Big Ten Early Tip:  No. 1 Indiana hosts Purdue

The No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers have cashed with a 4-1 spread record in their last five outings, holding foes to 64.4 PPG. Saturday’s college hoops betting has Tom Crean’s crew hosting an early tip against the Purdue Boilermakers, who are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four spots as road dogs.

Hoosiers, Zeller thrash Nebraska

Indiana pulled away in Wednesday’s 76-47 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, cashing as a 23 ½-point home favorite. The Hoosiers held Nebraska to 36.2 percent field shooting, while outrebounding the Cornhuskers, 36-21.

Hoosiers forward Cody Zeller notched a team-high 16 points, while adding five boards in 18 minutes of action. Indiana’s Christian Watford logged his second double-double in four games, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The lopsided battle’s combined 123 points dipped below the ‘total’ of 135, making the UNDER 2-1 in the Hoosiers’ last three games. Indiana drained 8-of-16 baskets beyond the arc, while hitting 24-of-29 free throws.

Boilermakers cooked in Champaign

Purdue’s latest defeat came in Wednesday’s 79-59 setback as an eight-point road dog against the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Boilermakers fell behind at halftime, 43-29, while held to a 38.2 percent night from the floor.

Boilermakers mates Terone Johnson and A.J. Hammons united for 28 points and four boards each. Purdue’s Ronnie Johnson logged team-highs of five assists and seven rebounds, while adding two of his side’s eight steals.

The duel’s combined 138 points jumped above the ‘total’ of 134, moving the OVER to 4-1 in the Boilermakers’ last five contests. Purdue was outrebounded, 40-29, while allowing 42.6 percent field shooting from the Illini.

Back the Hoosiers at home opened Indiana as 20-point home ‘chalk,’ while first listing the ‘total’ at 140. Early betting ‘steam’ on Purdue and the OVER moved the numbers to 19 and 141, respectively.

I am laying the big number in this spot, adding a ticket on Indiana to the day’s card. The Hoosiers notched a 97-60 victory over Purdue, two weeks ago, cashing as 7 ½-point road favorites against the basketball odds with chances looking unlikely for a different story to surface here.

Indiana has logged its share of blowouts in Bloomington this year, particularly in spots that preceded playing a highly-ranked foe. The Hoosiers have a Tuesday meeting looming with No. 8 Michigan State and notched a 72-49 blowout over the Penn State Nittany Lions just before last month’s triumph over the Spartans

Purdue is 1-5-1 ATS in its last seven road spots against squads with winning home records, while ranking a distant ninth in the Big Ten Conference for scoring (64.9 PPG). The Boilermakers have found rims away from home at a sparse 39.3 percent from the field, while logging a 2-7 spread record in their last nine meetings with the Hoosiers.

Look for Indiana to put this one out of reach early with another statement win at Assembly Hall and a cashed ticket for their backers.
