The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets square off against the #4 Virginia Cavaliers at the right time this afternoon as the Cavs were defeated in their last game by the Virginia Tech Hokies.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Georgia Tech +6
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

Tip-off is set for this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. EST at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Georgia. According at 5Dimes, the Cavaliers are a 5.5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 133 on the NCAA basketball odds.

Virginia has 2 wins over ranked opponents this season against West Virginia and Villanova. Their loss to Virginia Tech basically came out of nowhere and now they desperately need a bounce back win for their confidence. This is when good teams put a beating on their opponent.

The Big 3?
Well, that's taking it too far, especially for a team that only averages 34 rebounds per game, but Malcolm Brogdon (16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists), Anthony Gill (15.4 points and 6.4 rebounds) ,and London Perrantes (11.3 points, 4.4 assists) lead the way for Virginia and this is a very efficient team offensively. They have the added advantage that if indeed this game is close down the stretch, every one of these players can knock down their free throws and that is often overlooked.

Malcolm Brogdon and Anthony Gill
Brogdon will provide his team every chance to win as he never met a shot that he hasn't liked. In his last 5 games, he's shot quite poorly, shooting just 22 for 59 from the field. That said, when the shot isn't working, he can still be effective rebounding, dishing the ball to the hot player, and playing solid defense. Look for Brogdon to make a statement in this game. He fouled out against Virginia Tech and ended up with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, but did turn the ball over 4 times.

One player that Virginia won't have to worry about is Anthony Gill. The senior has been taking very intelligent shots as of late and it's been paying off. He's 20 for his last 27 shots and will provide Virginia a much need inside presence. Gill hasn't produced a game below 17 points in his last 5 games and this would be an important game to continue that trend. Overall, look for Virginia to have a big game; a statement game if you will.

The ACC Conference hasn't been so kind to Georgia Tech as they have started off 0-2 in inter-conference play and they could be 0-3 after this afternoon's showdown.

Charles Mitchell
He's number 0 on your programs and this is a guy that can be a major nuisance for a soft Virginia team. At 6 foot 8, 269 pounds, Mitchell makes his presence felt on the inside as he's dominant defending the boards.

For the season, Mitchell is averging 13.4 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He's coming off of a monster performance in an 89-84 loss to Pitt as he collected 17 rebounds along with scoring 20 points.Look for Mitchell to play well here. Although Georgia Tech is 0-2 in inter-conference games, they have been very competitive and we're concerned about the betting spread more so than the winner.. I like Georgia Tech Tech to find a way to cover the spread as the NCAA basketball pick.
