No. 3 Kansas returns home vs. Oklahoma
The Sooners have a 4-1 spread record in their last five spots away from home. Will the Sooners cash another road ticket here, or will Kansas get the money as a double-digit ‘chalk?’
Jayhawks, Withey edge out K-State
Kansas notched its latest victory on Tuesday and covered the NCAAB betting odds with the 59-55 win as a 3 ½-point road favorite over the Kansas State Wildcats. The Jayhawks held K-State to 35.1 percent field shooting, while edging their rival in boards, 31-28.
Jayhawks center Jeff Withey logged his second double-double in five games, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kansas’ Travis Releford came away with a team-high 12 points, knocking down 5-of-6 shots from the floor.
The battle’s combined 114 points dipped below the ‘total’ of 127 ½, moving the UNDER to 5-1 in Kansas’ last six games. Jayhawks guard Elijah Johnson notched four assists and two steals, while he and his mates hit 13-of-21 free throws.
Sooners, Osby outgun Texas
Oklahoma notched its sixth win in seven games with Monday’s 73-67 victory over the Texas Longhorns, while falling short of cashing as 7 ½-point home ‘chalk.’ The Sooners connected 48.1 percent of their field buckets, while logging a 21-for-27 night at the foul line.
Sooners forward Romero Osby piled in a season-high 29 points, while adding eight rebounds and three of his squad’s eight steals. Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield and Sam Grooms recorded four assists each, while uniting for 19 points.
The duel’s combined 140 points jumped above the ‘total’ of 129, lifting the OVER to 3-0-1 in the Sooners’ last four games. Orsby and Hield each logged a pair of blocks, while Oklahoma was outrebounded, 34-27.
Back Oklahoma as a big dog
Bookmaker.eu opened Kansas as a 14-point home favorite, while first listing the ‘total’ at 133. Early betting action on Oklahoma and the OVER shifted the numbers one point each to 13 and 134, respectively.
I am tailing the early ‘steam’ here, adding a ticket on the Sooners as part of my college basketball picks for the day’s card. Oklahoma has found the rims on the road in both of its Big 12 Conference affairs away from home, connecting at 45.6 percent over in its meetings with Kansas State and West Virginia.
Osby has risen to rank fifth in scoring among Big 12 rivals (14.5 PPG) for the Sooners, while Oklahoma has gone 5-1 ATS in its last six games against squads with winning records. Kansas has seen its octane dip to 61 PPG in its last four contests, while logging a 1-3 spread record in its last four spots as a double-digit favorite.
The Sooners also come in with revenge after being spanked, 84-62, in last February’s visit to Lawrence and will not have to contend with the now-departed Thomas Robinson’s 20 points and 17 boards. Look for Oklahoma to keep it closer this time around, collecting at the betting windows.
