The Kansas State Wildcats have been nearly perfect thus far this season, losing just to Maryland and by 1 points. Strength of schedule hasn’t been their “strength” and it show’s in the odds in their matchup against the 3rd ranked Kansas Jayhawks who look fairly unbeatable with Frank Mason III leading the way.

Kansas State Wildcats (12-1) vs Kansas Jayhawks (12-1)

After a season opening 103-99 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, the Kansas Jayhawks have run off 12 consecutive victories including wins over highly touted Duke and Stanford. The Wildcats can’t lay the same claim as they’ve had a much easier schedule, but that’s about to change tonight as these two teams collide in inter-conference play. An upset here would be huge for the Wildcats but doesn’t seem likely.

Good Things Come In Small Packages

Just look at 5 foot 11 senior guard Frank Mason III and he’s the total “package” as he can do it all, getting down in the trenches with guys that are a foot taller than him and still managing nearly 5 rebounds per game.

To go along with with his ability to grab a rebound. Mason III leads the Jayhawks at 19.8 points, 5.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Along with being able to play both ends of the court, Mason III is shooting amazing 48.2% from beyond the arc.  He’s been consistent all season long and this is a big game. Look for him to have another 20 plus point outburst against the Wildcats.

This is a Kansas team that doesn’t lack arsenal as they average 87 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. K.State will easily need to play their best game of the season to contend with Mason III and the Jayhawks.

Inconsistency

For Kansas State, leading scorer, Barry Brown (12.1 ppg) has been really struggling as of late, averaging just 5.5 points in his last 2 games while shooting just 3 of 18 from the field. Senior forward, Wesley Iwundu might have to pick up the pieces as we don’t know what we’ll see from Brown. Iwundu is coming off of a 16 point, 7 rebound effort and Kansas State can only hope that their team leaders gain some confidence. While this is a team that’s lost just 1 game all season long, they’re not as good as their record indicates.
