The TCU Horned Frogs face a lot of challenges in the Big 12 this season. The Washington Huskies have not made the NCAA tournament in several seasons, check our NCAA basketball pick.

The TCU cause stands on shaky ground right now. A lopsided win over Colgate in the team’s most recent game is not a step backward, but this is a team waiting for its first real breakthrough of the season. The Horned Frogs pushed SMU at home last week, but they could not break through and win the game, falling by a score of 75-70. TCU will have to shore up its defense, which is something it probably would have needed to do this season regardless of other outside circumstances. However, this need for better defense is even more real in light of the 30-second shot clock, which is giving offenses a lot more possessions and is forcing defenses to react to a lot more quick-attack sets by offenses. TCU must be more alert on defense, and this applies to Tuesday’s game against Washington.

The Huskies have struggled of late. They started their season with a win over Texas in Asia, but they lost to Texas in the Battle 4 Atlantis Thanksgiving tournament a week and a half ago. They also lost to in-state rival Gonzaga before beating a bad Charlotte team in a consolation game. Washington did bounce back to win its most recent game against Cal State Fullerton, but it has a lot of work to do. Texas is the one really good looking win on the schedule, but after losing to Texas in a second meeting, that win won’t mean quite as much. Washington has to build back its season, and that means the backcourt has to be better. Last season, when big man Robert Upshaw got suspended and had to miss the latter portion of the season, the team collapsed. The backcourt wasn’t good enough to make up the difference. That has to be a key point for this team in the days and weeks ahead, before Pac-12 play begins.

Home-Away Trends
TCU is playing its first road game of the season. It played two neutral-site games a few weeks ago in a pre-Thanksgiving holiday tournament. Washington won its first three home games of the season and won its most recent game over the weekend against Cal State Fullerton.

TCU guard Chauncey Collins is questionable with a leg injury. Forward Chris Washburn is going to miss this game with a finger injury. Guard Kenrich Williams is out for the season with a knee injury.

Washington does not have any injuries right now.

What’s The Pick?
The injuries to TCU would certainly seem to be a factor – not just the presence of injuries, but Williams being out and Washington not having any injuries of its own. That affects the NCAA basketball odds. On top of that, TCU is making a long commute to a corner of the country, which would seem to make the Huskies the clear favorite. Take Washington with your NCAA basketball picks.
