The NCAA Basketball odds makers opened the Wolfpack as the small favorites, giving away just one point to Virginia. At time of writing, the total had not been released.
Over the previous eight matchups between these teams, the Cavaliers have covered the spread six times.
NC State Wolfpack
Before the season started, the Wolfpack were expected to be one of the teams to beat in the ACC. They did go 23-9 overall, but it's safe to say that they haven't been nearly as dominant of a year as many thought it'd be.
NC State, seeded fifth, did look the part in the opening round of the tournament though, beating Virginia Tech 80-63 and easily cashing as 10.5-point favorites.
The Wolfpack put on a clinic offensively, hitting 28-of-53 shots (52.8 percent) overall. Richard Howell had 22 points and 12 rebounds, Lorenzo Brown flirted with a triple-double, and C.J. Leslie, Scott Wood and T.J. Warren all scored in double figures.
A 11-7 conference record was good enough for the fourth seed and a BYE in the first round for the Cavaliers. They went a perfect 18-0 SU at home but will now have to prove they have the moxie in a different kind of environment.
Virginia's final seven games of the regular season were all over the place. They beat Duke, Maryland and Georgia Tech at home but then lost to North Carolina, Miami (FL), Florida State and Boston College on the road.
That said, you can never count out the Cavaliers with a guy like Joe Harris on the team. He averaged a team-leading 17.0 PPG and hit a terrific 44.4 percent from three. You've also got like what Akil Mitchell (13.1 PPG and 8.9 RPG) has been doing inside this season.

College Basketball Pick
No doubt Harris is a special player, but in our estimation the Wolfpack are the more talented team overall and they seem to be getting things right at the perfect time.
Virginia is a completely different team when not on their own court. While they went 13-2-1 ATS at home during the season, the Cavaliers were just 4-8 ATS in games outside of their building.
At 4-1 ATS in their previous five games overall, we will be backing NC State with our college basketball picks. A win would put them in the semi-finals, where they'll face off against the winner of Miami and Boston College.NCAA Basketball Pick: NC State Wolfpack -1 at 5Dimes
