North Carolina State and Duke collide today in the second round of the ACC Tournament. Will Duke be able to revenge their regular season loss to the Wolfpack? How will North Carolina State respond after yesterday’s big win over Pittsburgh? We have those answers and much more.
Duke seeks Revenge in Second Round of ACC Tournament
The ACC Tournament resumes on Thursday with second round action in Greenville, North Carolina. My focus in this article will be on the matchup between the #7 seed North Carolina State Wolfpack (20-12), and the #2 seeded Duke Blue Devils (28-3). The scheduled opening tip is 7:00 PM ET, and the game will be televised by ESPN. According the NCAA Basketball odds at BetOnline, Duke is an 8.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 147.5. These teams met once this season, and North Carolina State came away with an 87-75 home win as a 9.0 point underdog. That contest easily went over the total of 142.0.
Off the Bubble
North Carolina State is coming off an 81-70 win yesterday over Pittsburgh in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Popular opinion among the so called NCAA bracket experts, projects North Carolina State having clinched a spot in “The Big Dance”, resulting from Wednesday’s win. An upset against the #3 ranked team (Duke) in the country today, certainly would go a long way in assuredly punching their ticket in that regard. The Wolpack will enter this contest on a pretty decent winning roll, going 6-1 SU&ATS in their last seven games. They’ve been stellar defensively for the most part in those seven contests, allowing an average of only 61.6 points per game, and holding opponents to 38.2% shooting from the field.
Playing for a #1 Seed in “The Big Dance”
As I referenced in an article earlier this week, Duke must advance to the ACC Final in order for them to comfortably secure a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils enter today’s ACC second round game by having won eleven in a row since a 77-73 loss at Notre Dame on January 28th. They’re an explosive offensive team, averaging 81.3 points per game, shooting 50.3% from the field, and converting on a stellar 39.3% of their three-point attempts. Duke has seen 18 of 29-games go over the number this season when there was a posted total.
I liked North Carolina State as a dark horse selection prior to the start of this tournament for one of my NCAA Basketball picks. I like them even more as a sizable underdog in today’s game.
