Glancing over their MVC game results indicates that that ranking is probably well-deserved, as there was really only one game in their entire conference schedule that they were ever in serious danger of losing, their early January matchup with Missouri St which did go into overtime.
So it’s no surprise that Wichita St has been priced as an overwhelming favorite to win the MVC tournament, at NCAA Basketball odds around -700, and even at that line, they probably still have a bit of value, in light of how little they were challenged by their MVC opponents all season long.
But even if Wichita St winning the tournament is a given, there is still reason to follow the tournament from the betting perspective for possibly value on individual game spreads.
One game that could wind up having value on its spread might be Indiana St’s semifinal game. Assuming Indiana St wins their quarterfinal game, they will be matched up against one of the hottest ATS teams in the conference, either Northern Iowa or Southern Illinois, and Indiana St wrapped up the regular season on an awful ATS run, losing 8 out of their final 9 regular season games ATS.
Assuming that the winner of the Northern Iowa/Southern Illinois game still has something left in the tank after their clash, that team should be in a good position to have some betting value on their spread against Indiana St.
But the story of the MVC this year is Wichita St, and all signs are pointing to continued domination by the Shockers in the conference tournament.
