The Iowa Hawkeyes are normally underdogs against the Michigan State Spartans, but they’ll dress up as favorites in Tuesday night’s affair. Have the odds makers letf us any value on offer in this matchup?

Let’s take a closer look at the NCAA basketball odds for this Big Ten Conference matchup at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Take a look t the Updated 2014 NCAA Basketball Future Odds

Dealing with adversity

Michigan State is expected to play its second consecutive game without the services of Branden Dawson and Adreian Payne, as it attempts to bounce back from a 80-75 setback to the Michigan Wolverines as five-point home favorites last Saturday.

The Spartans have used nine different starting lineups in the last 14 games, but still have point guard Keith Appling leading the team, as he’s averaging 15.4 points and 4.9 assists on the season.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 7-4 SUATS off a loss against a conference rival, with the UNDER going 6-5 in that situation.

A dangerous team

Iowa is 4-1 SUATS over its last five games, as it returns home after picking up a 76-50 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats as 9.5-point road underdogs last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.

The Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten in averaging 85.2 points per game—well ahead of the second-place Spartans (79.7) in that statistical category.

College basketball handicappers will find that the team is 4-1 SUATS as home favorites of 3.5 to 6 points the last two-plus seasons.

Series history

The Spartans are worth a look as road underdogs in this spot, considering they’ve won 11 of their last 12 meetings against the Hawkeyes, with both of last year’s wins coming by a three-point margin.

Michigan State has also been favored over Iowa in at least the last 10 games in this series, with head coach Tom Izzo compiling a 26-9 SU record in this series since arriving in East Lansing.

Winning at home

The Hawkeyes are the only Big Ten program with an undefeated home record, as they attempt to tie the arena record with their 21st consecutive win in this affair.

Iowa ranks second nationally in outscoring opponents by an average of 19.1 points per game.

I’ve established a handicapper line favoring the Hawkeyes by 5.5 points with their NCAA Basketball picks, which signals a play on the host at a number of five or lower, while the Spartans are worth a look at anything above six in the marketplace.

Recommendation:  Iowa -5 or lower, Michigan State +6.5 or higher
