As the NCAA Basketball odds stand right now, UNC is favored by four points against a Maryland squad that's covered in three of their last four.
The Terps might look like the hot team at the moment, but should bettors be quick to add them to their sports picks against a surging Tar Heel squad?
One night after beating Wake Forest, the Terrapins pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the day, overcoming number-one seed Duke in the quarter-finals.
In the 83-74 win, Maryland controlled the glass and still won pretty easily despite turning the ball over more than twice as many times as did the Blue Devils. It took a special individual performance from Dez Wells to get the job done, with the scoring guard dropping 30 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while adding six rebounds and three assists.
Not many were expecting such a strong showing from the Terps, considering they had closed out the regular season losing two straight and three of their last four. They certainly look the part right now however.
UNC Tar Heels
A first-round BYE gave the Tar Heels ample time to rest up and prepare and they were outstanding against Florida State in the quarters. P.J. Hariston had 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, Reggie Bullock had 17 points and nine boards, and Marcus Paige was one point short of a double-double.
Roy Williams couldn't have asked for a better response from his team after that horrible display at home against Duke. The Tar Heels asserted themselves from the opening tipoff to win for the seventh time in eight games.
The Tar Heels are also on a tear against the spread – they're 8-1 ATS over their previous nine games overall and have covered in four straight meetings with Maryland.

College Basketball Pick
What a run it's been for the Terrapins, but the Tar Heels have had their number this season and we don't think it'll change here in the tournament.
In two meetings during the regular season, UNC won by 10 at home and then beat Maryland by 11 on the road, covering the spread on both occasions. Bullock was terrific in both wins, totaling 44 points and 17 rebounds.
The Tar Heels have survived big-time performances from Wells in the past. We see them doing it again and subsequently moving on to the finals, and therefore we are backing them with our NCAA Basketball picks in this situation.NCAA Basketbll Pick: UNC Tar Heels -4
