It is always fun to check NCAA basketball odds especially a game that figures to be up tempo.  Today we will check the total action when the Iowa Hawkeyes take on the Iowa State Cyclones.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Under 153.5
Best Line Offered: at Bet365

NCAA basketball odds have set this game at 153 for the total. The early juice on the game is pretty high but I expect for the public, as usual, to jump on over the total in this matchup of two up tempo teams. For my selection today I will be going the other way though and backing under the total. You might want to wait to see how this line moves to get the best odds possible.

Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa comes in averaging 83.8 points per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, and allowing 67.2 points per game on 38.6% shooting from the field.  We are well aware that with Fran McCaffrey at the helm we are going to get a team that likes to run as the Hawkeyes average 64.3 shots per game which ranks 31st in the country.  At 7-2 this is very good team with the losses being to two good teams in Dayton and Notre Dame losing by five and six points respectively.  They move the ball well averaging 19.6 assists per game and have solid scoring options around the perimeter led by senior forward Jarrod Uthoff.  What has been illuminating is their effort on the defensive end which could help them make the jump from upper Big Ten team to contending.  On that side of the ball they are allowing opponents just 43.8% in effective field goals, and a .946 shooting efficiency which ranks 23rd in the country.

Iowa State Cyclones
The Cyclones come in averaging 86.9 points per game while shooting 51.7% from the field, and allowing 66.6 points per game on 38.1% shooting from the field.  They are undefeated on the season but it seems that Iowa will be just about the best team they have faced so far this season.  Offensively they have been very efficient and average 34.3 made field goals per game which ranks first in the country.  Like Iowa they like to push the pace averaging 66.3 shots per game with just over 23 of those coming from beyond the arc.  Also like Iowa, they are not neglecting the other side of the floor and only allowing teams a 43.7% effective field goal percentage.  They have been also good defending the perimeter allowing under 30% from beyond the arc.

This should be a really fun matchup with two good basketball teams.  Although this game does tend to be pretty high scoring the total is just too high with both teams playing well on the defensive end.  Don't get sucked in to making the "fun" play, the value today is on the under in a game I think will go down to the wire so for your NCAA basketball pick I recommend backing the under.
